The result has been, in the words of Sir H. S. Maine, "false morality, false history, false philosophy, false physics." All educated Hindus will admit that the history, geography, and astronomy of the Hindu sacred books are egregiously wrong. In the following pages it is shown that belief in Yoga powers and charms is equally mistaken. Marvellous power may indeed be acquired, but not by Yoga. The reader is advised to follow the course pointed out at page 58. "Awakened India," instead of adopting the Fowl or Tortoise Upset Posture, with his eye fixed on the tip of his nose and seeking "the suppression of the transformations of the thinking principle," should rather endeavour to have his muscles braced like those of Prince Ranjitsinhji, his faculties of observation cultivated like those of Professor Bose, his ability to weigh evidence developed like that of Dr. Bhandarkar. Instead of a dreamy pessimism, let there be active benevolence. Thus would India advance in civilization with a speed before unknown. This book is a rare gem. Written and originally appearing at the end of the author's illustrious life, it is one of the few books available today in which the accurate information on Kriya Yoga is given, historical and otherwise, and written by a man who was part of that sacred tradition during its very crucial years and who had personally known several of the authorized disciples of the Yogiraj Shyama Charan Lahiri Mahasaya (including of course his own beloved Master, the illustrious Swamiji Maharaj, Sriyukteshvar Giri, by whom he was initiated in year 1929 at age nineteen and with whom he remained in close association). The book also discusses similarities that can be traced in the teachings of Jesus Christ contained in selected expressions in the Holy Bible and the basic conceptions of the Hindu spiritual practices and scriptures. Essentially Kriya Yoga is a universally applicable spiritual system without any inhibition with regard to faiths and nationalities, and directed towards development of the complete man-in body, mind and in the unfoldment of the inner Spirit.

In that case how can we make use of the techniques available to us to the best of our advantage? "Mudras" help us to keep our body and mind pure and chaste. They are tools to lead us to life fulfilment. When we activate the nerve and nadi centres in the body, they make the flow of energy smooth. Our body is a fantastic machine designed by the Creator. He has set in it a super computer called the 'Brain'. All the activities in our body are controlled by the Mind. The pressure exerted on certain key points in the body and in hands, energises the centres in the brain. We have come to know this truth as a result of experiments conducted in different parts of the world. Acupressure specialists assert that if we activate certain points in the legs, hands and ears, we can ward off a number of disorders of the body. In our ancient Tantra Marga we hear about "Khechari Mudra". During five thousand years after sage Vedavyasa, our ancestors have devised a number of ways to help man keep himself fit. They are simple and workable. We get a sea of information about Mudra Science in a number of books on Yoga shastra and Tantra Shastra. In a few of our epics also, we get references to these Mudras.
