The Brannock brothers couldn't be more different, but they have one thing in common: the drive to make their dreams come true in the wild and wide-open southwest territory. Virgil Brannock's got plans-big plans: From Washington D.C. to the most desolate reaches of the territory, he'll build a railroad empire with sheer guts, raw ambition, and hot lead... Clint Brannock is a solitary man by nature, but that doesn't stop him from joining up with the Cavalry in a violent charge that will darken the desert sands with blood... Earl Brannock lives by no law but his own-until he finds a new code of honor with the Comanches. But will his brotherhood with that fierce, proud tribe put him at odds with his blood kin? Now, on a harsh frontier where weakness equals death, three brothers will cross paths once more-and three men's conflicts will come to a head as a new page in history is written amidst greed, gunfire, and the quest for glory...

When Elsie Hulsizer was little, she lived on the shores of Puget Sound in Washington where she spent the summers sailing in a small open sailboat with her parents. Her parents would always start out by sailing to windward, or against the wind, so they would have an easy ride home with the wind pushing them from behind. When Elsie grew up and got married, she and her husband Steve spent their summers sailing out of Puget Sound and up the Strait of Juan de Fuca, always to windward. This challenging course took them up the west coast of Vancouver Island where they were rewarded with a cruising area of spectacular scenery and quiet anchorages that were almost all their own. They spent the next twenty-odd years delightedly exploring the four sounds, several inlets and countless islands, bays, coves and stretches of unprotected coast between Barkley Sound and Brooks Peninsula. On their trips they survived many hair-raising encounters with wild weather and foaming reefs, met interesting people and discovered the intriguing history of a coast undergoing phenomenal changes. Beautifully illustrated with her own excellent photographs, Voyages to Windward is Elsie's account of their quarter-century of discovery, an absorbing, exquisitely crafted story that will delight all sailors whether or not they plan to follow Elsie's windward course.

John Davy (1790-1868) was an English doctor and brother of the chemist Sir Humphrey Davy. After graduating from Edinburgh University, in 1814 Davy became Inspector General of Army Hospitals, and he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1834. In his capacity as Inspector General, he spent 1845-1848 living in Barbados and visiting other Caribbean Islands. This volume, first published in 1854, describes the society and culture of Barbados and other islands, including Trinidad, Tobago and St Lucia. Based on Davy's notes and observations made while stationed on the island, the book describes in vivid detail the disparities in education, quality of life and behaviour between the freed slaves, indentured servants and plantation owners of Barbados and other islands. Davy's sympathetic account provides valuable first-hand descriptions of the social conditions and tensions which existed after the Emancipation Act of 1834.
