After the revolution Gen. Knox contracted to buy one million acres on the upper Kennebec and 52 townships east of the Penobscot, from the state of Massachusetts. Some years later, having secured the Waldo patent through his marriage, he assigned the contract with Massachusetts to William Bingham. Mr. Allen was sub-agent for sale of the Bingham lands for many years.
