This book provides a comprehensive coverage of Victorias superb native wildflowers with 840 colour photographs, mainly by Bruce Fuhrer, the outstanding botanical photographer. Some of the States rarest plants are included as well as many species which are widespread. The introduction gives a brief overview of the natural regions of the State with reference to National Parks and bushland areas known for their diversity and richness of flowering plants. The bulk of the book contains superb colour photographs of the flowering plants, the majority taken close up to display the details of individual flowers and leaves. There are brief plant descriptions, with notes on habitat and distribution, including occurrences in other States and overseas. The text is simply written with a minimum of botanical terms that are covered by an excellent glossary. Not since the publication in 1968 of Flowers and Plants of Victoria of which Bruce Fuhrer was a joint author, has such a wide selection of the States flora appeared in colour in the one volume. Only 50 of the plants illustrated in the book are confined to Victoria and the remainder are found in similar habitats in other States, making the book a useful reference work, particularly in adjoining areas of south-eastern Australia.

Wildflowers of the Brisbane Ranges contains magnificent photographs of more than 400 species, many of them orchids, including rare and vulnerable species such as the Naked Sun Orchid (Thelymitra circumsepta) and the Hyacinth Orchid (Dipodium pardalinum). A list of references, colour guide, glossary, comprehensive index and a soil type map have been included, to assist the reader in locating and identifying the different species. This full colour guide is the culmination of more than a decade of painstaking observation. The first full-colour photographic guide to the flowering plants of this World Heritage site. This guide describes, in clear and concise fashion, the common and accessible herbaceous plants and small shrubs at the Falls and up to 40km upstream, in Zambia. The book has been written and designed with the non-specialist in mind. Species accounts are based on easy-to-observe characteristics and are illustrated by at least one colour photograph. The text describes the overall habit, leaves, flowers and, in most cases, the fruits of each species. Supplementary notes provide interesting facts about the origin of names and some practical uses of the plants. * Some 220 species are covered, representing 70 families and 178 genera. * Colour photographs taken throughout the seasons portray the characteristics of each species. * An annotated map of the area indicates the nine distinct areas covered by this guide. * A concise glossary of terms aids interpretation of the text.
