3. Chelation Therapy, how it works, where to seek help Chelation Therapy has been in medical use for decades to treat the patients intoxicated with heavy metals like lead, mercury, arsenic and many others. The procedure involves use of FDA approved chelating agents like ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid (EDTA). Dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) is another chelating agent used for the treatment of lead poisoning in children.
