"Wiggins Pass, located in northern Collier County, Florida was initially dredged in 1984. The first successful maintenace dredging effort was completed for this inlet in 1991. This report presents the results of the first year monitoring study of the performance and impacts of the maintenance dredging of Wiggins Pass which was completed in December 1991. This report is presented to specifically address the monitoring requirements specified by the Florida Department of Envionmental Protection (DEP), formerly the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Coastal Construction Permit DBS 87-195 CO. This report has been sponsored by Collier County."--page 1

Pursuant to subsection 161.101(2), Florida Statutes, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (Department) is the beach and shore preservation authority for the State of Florida. As part of the Department’s statewide beach management plan adopted pursuant to section 161.161, Florida Statutes, the Department is adopting this inlet management plan for Wiggins Pass in Collier County, Florida. This plan updates strategies for Wiggins Pass adopted in the Strategic Beach Management Plan (DEP, 2018) to be consistent with current statutes and observed erosion conditions. As a first step towards adoption of this inlet management plan, in 2012, the Department and Collier County sponsored a study of Wiggins Pass performed by CBI – CP&E to compile new and historical data and information regarding beach and inlet changes and the dynamic coastal littoral processes in this area, and develop an updated sediment budget.

This proceedings contains nearly 200 papers on cutting-edge research presented at the seventh international Symposium on Coastal Engineering and Science of Coastal Sediment Processes, held May 2-6, 2011, in Miami, Florida, USA. This technical specialty conference was devoted to promoting an interdisciplinary exchange of state-of-the-art knowledge among researchers in the fields of coastal engineering, geology, oceanography, and related disciplines, with a theme of bringing together theory and practice.Focusing on the physical aspects of sediment processes in various coastal environments, this three-volume conference proceedings provides findings from the latest research and newest engineering applications. Session topics cover a wide range including barrier-island morphodynamics and evolution, beach nourishment and shore protection, coastal dunes, cohesive sediment transport, field and laboratory measurements of sediment transport processes and numerical modeling, gravel transport, large-scale and long-term coastal changes, LiDAR and remote sensing, longshore and cross-shore sediment transport, marsh and wetlands, regional sediment management, river deltas, sea-level changes, shelf and sand bodies, shoreline changes, tidal inlets and navigation channels. A special session on recent research findings at the Northern Gulf of Mexico is also included.
