What is this World? What kind of place is it? “The round kind. The spinning kind. The moist kind. The inhabited kind. The kind with flamingos (real and artificial). The kind where water in the sky turns into beautifully symmetrical crystal flakes sculpted by artists unable to stop themselves (in both design and quantity). The kind of place with tiny, powerfully jawed mites assigned to the carpets to eat my dead skin as it flakes off . . . The kind with people who kill and people who love and people who do both . . . This world is beautiful but badly broken. “I love it as it is, because it is a story, and it isn’t stuck in one place. It is full of conflict and darkness like every good story, a world of surprises and questions to explore. And there’s someone behind it; there are uncomfortable answers to the hows and whys and whats. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Through Him were all things made . . . Welcome to His poem. His play. His novel. Let the pages flick your thumbs.”

What’s heaven to seven-year-old Andre Agassi? To never play tennis again. Yet his father has other plans. Mike Agassi was born in Iran, where Allied soldiers gave him a racket after the war and introduced him to the game. He shaves without soap or cream, boxed in the Olympics, and speaks five languages. The sixth is tennis. And his greatest dream is for his son to become number one in the world. A selection from the acclaimed autobiography Open, this is the tumultuous first confrontation between father and son, between the lines of the court: a searching portrait of Agassi before fame and success.

"For nearly five decades, poet Brendan Galvin has written about the birds of the tidal flats, woods, and marshes around his Cape Cod home and on islands in the North Atlantic. He knows their field marks, habits, and songs, and his work demonstrates an obvious fascination with them. Whirl is King gathers forty-three of his bird poems about herons, owls, shorebirds, warblers, raptors, wrens, and other exotic visitors blown in by wind and storm. Whirl is King features Galvin's hallmark descriptive powers and verbal music on full display and demonstrates his talent as a contemporary poet."--BOOK JACKET.

Whirl Flutter of Turboprop Aircraft Structures, Second Edition explores the whirl flutter phenomenon, including theoretical, practical, analytical and experimental aspects of the matter. Sections provide a general overview regarding aeroelasticity, discussions on the physical principle and the occurrence of whirl flutter in aerospace practice, and experimental research conducted, especially from the 60s. Other chapters delve into analytical methods such as basic and advanced linear models, non-linear and CFD based methods, certification issues including regulation requirements, a description of possible certification approaches, and several examples of aircraft certification from aerospace. Finally, a database of relevant books, reports and papers is provided. This updated and expanded second edition covers new chapters including both analytical and experimental aspects of the subject matter. Provides complex information on turboprop aircraft whirl flutter phenomenon Presents both theoretical and practical (certification related) issues Includes experimental research as well as analytical models (basic and advanced) of matter Includes both early-performed works and recent developments Contains a listing of relevant books and reports

A summary is made of the state of the art of propeller-whirl flutter -- a precession-type instability that can occur on a flexibly mounted aircraft engine-propeller combination. This report reviews the literature relating to this problem from the time it first became of concern on conventional turboprop and V/STOL aircraft. Included in the survey are a description of the basic mechanism of whirl flutter, a summary of generalized trend studies on idealized systems, the status of methods for predicting propeller aerodynamic coefficients, the effects of flapping hinged blades and twisted flexible blades on whirl flutter, and some approaches for including propeller whirl modes as a part of the flutter evaluation for complete aircraft. Also, brief consideration is given to the response of flexibly mounted propeller-nacelle systems to random atmospheric turbulence. Whirl flutter of conventional propeller-nacelle systems is now a reasonably well understood phenomenon and amenable to analysis. For propeller-rotor systems with flapping blades, however, comparisons between experiment and theory suggest the need for further refinements in the mathematical model.

When city girl about town Roxanne Barns reluctantly accepts a holiday invite to her best friend Eve’s birthday party in the Scottish Highlands, the last thing she expects is to fall for the very person she’s been dreading seeing again—the feisty Highlander, Alice Campbell. The moment Alice learns that Roxanne is visiting her home hamlet of Newland, she couldn’t be more suspicious or defensive. A warm welcome is certainly not the plan, let alone falling in love. Despite Eve’s warnings that Roxanne is not relationship material, Alice can’t ignore her growing attraction. She absolutely trusts Eve’s judgment, but taking her advice just might break Alice’s heart. Highland Whirl reunites readers with the characters and landscape of Highland Fling in an emotionally enthralling story of trust, friendship, family, and love.
