Finalist for the 2022 Los Angeles Times Book Prize and the 2021 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work - Poetry A piercing, unflinching new volume offers necessary music for our tumultuous present, from “perhaps the best public poet we have” (Boston Globe). In her first volume of new poems in twelve years, Rita Dove investigates the vacillating moral compass guiding America’s, and the world’s, experiments in democracy. Whether depicting the first Jewish ghetto in sixteenth-century Venice or the contemporary efforts of Black Lives Matter, a girls’ night clubbing in the shadow of World War II or the doomed nobility of Muhammad Ali’s conscious objector stance, this extraordinary poet never fails to connect history’s grand exploits to the triumphs and tragedies of individual lives. Meticulously orchestrated and musical in its forms, Playlist for the Apocalypse collects a dazzling array of voices: an elevator operator simmers with resentment, an octogenarian dances an exuberant mambo, a spring cricket philosophizes with mordant humor on hip hop, critics, and Valentine’s Day. Calamity turns all too personal in the book’s final section, “Little Book of Woe,” which charts a journey from terror to hope as Dove learns to cope with debilitating chronic illness. At turns audaciously playful and grave, alternating poignant meditations on mortality and acerbic observations of injustice, Playlist for the Apocalypse takes us from the smallest moments of redemption to catastrophic failures of the human soul. Listen up, the poet says, speaking truth to power; what you’ll hear in return is “a lifetime of song.”

"A delightful board book introducing 12 of the most common woodland birds complete with high-quality sound bar, which conforms to regional safety standards. There are general introductions to the birds plus data profiles, fascinating facts and beautiful photographs. Its sturdy board book format makes it suitable for children aged 3 and upwards but it is actually something for the whole family to treasure and enjoy."--

The florescent lighting of the waiting room was of little comfort as we sat in silence, wondering the outcome of the doctors appointment. This was just a routine first step for couples experiencing difficulty conceiving. My appointment was not for another week and I was convinced that, at that point, we would know what the problem was, if any. We knew that there was nothing wrong.or so we thought. My journey through the initial, middle and continued stages of coming to accept not being able to conceive naturally is written to the daughter that I might have been able to have. All my longings and fears, dreams and hopes vulnerably escapes onto paper in hopes that others may be able to heal through my own experiences. This book is raw and holds nothing back.

"The offering that We bring are the messages. The Communication that We bring does not shelter you from your experiences, but offers understanding. Once you realize that all is well, you invite that information freely. Here is what We have to say: we offer you the information so that you can give your offering to one another. Each of you has come into existence with an offering. We say offering, not sacrifice. For a sacrifice implies that you have to do without or that you give away something of your own. We say offering because you give away what is yours, and when you give you also receive. Your offering is your gift of light. How do you shine forth for your neighbor? You can almost think of your offering as forming a chain. You give and then connect to the one to whom you give, and they connect on to another. This concept is one that should be called to mind when you feel that perpetuation of a routine existence. To live as you truly wish, you must share the offering. " Love, Michael
