Download Introduction to Psychology Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
This book is designed to help students organize their thinking about psychology at a conceptual level. The focus on behaviour and empiricism has produced a text that is better organized, has fewer chapters, and is somewhat shorter than many of the leading books. The beginning of each section includes learning objectives; throughout the body of each section are key terms in bold followed by their definitions in italics; key takeaways, and exercises and critical thinking activities end each section.

Download The Psychology of Learning Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
An introduction to the psychology of learning that summarizes and integrates findings from both functional psychology and cognitive psychology.learning. Learning unites all living creatures, from simple microbes to complex human beings. But what is learning? And how does it work? For over a century, psychologists have considered such questions. Behavior analysts examined the ways in which the environment shapes behavior, whereas cognitive scientists have sought to understand the mental processes that enable us to learn. This book offers an introduction to the psychology of learning that draws on the key findings and major insights from both functional (behavior analysis) and cognitive approaches. After an introductory overview, the book reviews research showing how seemingly simple regularities in the environment lead to powerful changes in behavior, from habituation and classical conditioning to operant conditioning effects. It introduces the concept of complex learning and considers the idea that for verbal human beings even seemingly simple types of learning might qualify as instances of complex learning. Finally, it offers many examples of how psychological research on learning is being used to promote human well-being and alleviate such societal problems as climate change. Throughout the book, boxed text extends the discussion of selected topics and “think it through” questions help readers gain deeper understanding of what they have read. The book can be used as an introductory textbook on the psychology of learning for both undergraduate and postgraduate students or as a reference for researchers who study behavior and thinking.

Download What is Clinical Psychology? Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
The number of people working in the field of clinical psychology has expanded significantly in recent years. The fifth edition of this very popular text has been extensively re-written and updated by two well respected editors who are closely connected with recent developments in the profession of clinical psychology. It includes sixteen chapters that cover all the major domains of clinical practice, from work in primary care or with children and families, to clinical psychology as it is practiced with those with severe and enduring mental health problems, and those with eating disorders, to the work of clinical psychologists in forensic settings or in leadership positions. It also includes recent innovations in service provision such the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies programme (IAPT). The book opens with an overview of professional practice and a clear introduction to the major competencies and theories used by practitioners, followed by a series of chapters that are authored by practising clinical psychologists who all have extensive experience in their specialist areas. These chapters effectively and vividly describe the application of the reflective scientist practitioner model of working. The book concludes with a wide-ranging consideration of likely future developments and challenges. The text also addresses key issues including ethics, diversity and team working. A key feature is the provision of a living sense of what the job entails, while an appendix provides guidance on training routes. This volume clearly demonstrates that clinical psychology is a highly effective profession, which applies understandings and findings from the discipline of psychology to clinical contexts in order to ameliorate people's distress and to support their wellbeing.

Download Brain and Human Behavior Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
This volume is based on the Symposium on "The Brain and Human Behavior," held in October of 1969 as a part of the centennial observance of the Loyola Uni versity of Chicago. As President of the University, I was pleased to offer the University's support for the organization of this Symposium and to participate in some of its sessions. The volume which I now have the pleasure to introduce employs the materials of the Symposium as a framework. Its chapters constitute updated and greatly expanded versions of the original presentations, edited and organized so as to constitute an integrated picture of Neurosciences and their epistemological aspects. It seems appropriate for me to describe at this time certain features of this Jesuit University and of its Centennial which are particularly pertinent in the context of the present volume. Loyola University of Chicago opened its classes on September 5, 1870 with a faculty of 4 and a student body of 37. Today, Loyola University is the largest in dependent University in Illinois and the largest institution of higher learning under Catholic sponsorship in the United States of America. The University comprises twelve schools and colleges, a faculty of more than 1,600 and a student body of 16,545. As an institution of learning, this University is dedicated to knowledge; but perhaps more particularly than others, it is dedicated to the integration of truth and the knowledge of man as such.
