Aditya gave a slight nod and Yash continued, ‘let us analyze these stepping stones step by step. We can write your perfect equation of success as: IIT Kanpur + IIM Ahmadabad = Dream Job. The only one miniscule, worthless, absolutely trashy achievement that you can boast of is that you somehow managed to fill in the right circles in that answer sheet on the day of the horror called —JEE. Nandini continued, ‘We are talking about getting a degree from some college, whereas, there are people whom the best colleges are dying to confer honorary degree but they don’t even bother to come and collect it.’ ‘Ding’ went the doorbell and I went to open the door. Black salwar suit, hair till shoulder, few of them guarding the forehead, very small silver earrings and a slick golden watch were adorning her 5 ft. 6 inches — without heel — structure. It was Shweta. Yeah... well... let me think...it’s a tough one. Just call her Dude. She has asked you to Call her. I don’t see you are left with an option here.’

If it seems something of an impertinence to write about the life of a man who is still alive and apparently determined to be so for many years of energy and activity, it appears to be almost in the nature of a sacrilege to draw aside the veil which ought to shroud the privacy of his family life. Most English folk, whether they show it or not, are deeply in love with the sentiment expressed in Browning's lines,— "A peep through my window if some should prefer, But, please you, no foot over threshold of mine"— but in the case of the Baden-Powell family many feet have already crossed the threshold, and many hands have drawn aside the curtain.' -an excerpt from the novel

At one, it is a lucidly explained guide that, with the lightest of touch, hand-holds and empowers students to prepare them for what lies beyond the classroom. At another, it is a veritable manual for our work and life. As technology reshapes both, the book offers invaluable insight into what each means and how we can better navigate the increasingly permeable walls between the two." Raj Kamal Jha, engineer, journalist, novelist, and Chief Editor of The Indian Express. Blurb: Many career advice books are written by senior managers and entrepreneurs for senior managers and entrepreneurs. Other career advice books are written by people whose career consists of giving career advice. This book is written for young engineers by an engineering professor who is currently engaged in teaching and research. The book emphasizes a long-term view. Engineering is not learned in four years. If you are alert, and keep learning and integrating ideas along the way, then you slowly build up a type of understanding that newcomers cannot match. This helps you build a sustainable career. Do not be distracted by the apparent success of a few people who seem to take shortcuts. For most people, statistics will apply. For most people, and therefore probably for you as well, success will be more likely if you develop long term value.

How the language of “merit” makes caste privilege invisible in contemporary India. Just as Americans least disadvantaged by racism are most likely to endorse their country as post‐racial, Indians who have benefited from their upper-caste affiliation rush to declare their country post‐caste. In The Caste of Merit, Ajantha Subramanian challenges this comfortable assumption by illuminating the controversial relationships among technical education, caste formation, and economic stratification in modern India. Through in-depth study of the elite Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs)—widely seen as symbols of national promise—she reveals the continued workings of upper-caste privilege within the most modern institutions. Caste has not disappeared in India but instead acquired a disturbing invisibility—at least when it comes to the privileged. Only the lower castes invoke their affiliation in the political arena, to claim resources from the state. The upper castes discard such claims as backward, embarrassing, and unfair to those who have earned their position through hard work and talent. Focusing on a long history of debates surrounding access to engineering education, Subramanian argues that such defenses of merit are themselves expressions of caste privilege. The case of the IITs shows how this ideal of meritocracy serves the reproduction of inequality, ensuring that social stratification remains endemic to contemporary democracies.
