Born in London in 1954, he moved to Leeds at the age of nine. On a holiday to Scarborough, he was taken on the pirate ship the Hispaniola, which was on a lake called The Mere. The crew were dressed as pirates and took the kids to a small island on the lake to dig for doubloons which were exchanged for sixpences. After this exciting holiday (and many Errol Flynn films) he dressed as a pirate at weekends, much to the astonishment of his friends. Moving to Bridlington at the age of forty-eight, he became a proper pirate wandering the streets of Whitby and Bridlington, having many exciting adventures.
