Fleet Numerical Weather Central (FNWC) wave period and height analyses for a selected grid point were verified by comparison with wave conditions recorded by a coastal wave sensor at San Clemente Island, California. Forty-six per cent of the FNWC wave heights were within plus or minus 1 foot of the recorded heights, 75% were within plus or minus 2 feet, and 91% were within plus or minus 4 feet. The FNWC heights were found to be over-six per cent of the FNWC periods were within plus or minus 1 second of the recorded periods, 45% were within plus or minus 2 seconds, 66% were within plus or minus 4 seconds, and 90% were within plus or minus 6 seconds. There was no tendency for FNWC to over or underpredict swell periods, but wind-wave periods were under predicted on the average by five seconds. (Author).

(Black/White/Greyscale Edition) "If you don't like the weather in Ohio, just wait ten minutes." Weather is the one thing we all have in common. We all have to contend with that stuff churning around in the atmosphere. But what causes that weather? What forces are at work? Why does it happen when, where, and how it does? And can we actually predict what's going to happen in Central Ohio? Meteorologist Marshall McPeek takes us on a Central Ohio weather adventure to show us how the weather works and how we can prepare for what comes our way. The weather influences what we wear, how we behave, even what we talk about at chatty dinner parties. It's usually just part of the background in our busy, daily routines, but every now and then, Mother Nature makes a big fuss to make sure we're respectful. The weather is fascinating! Once we understand how difficult it is to create a single raindrop, we're blown away by the incredible power of our atmosphere!
