There’s likely no more of a thankless job in the Federation than temporal investigation. While starship explorers get to live the human adventure of traveling to other times and realities, it’s up to the dedicated agents of the Federation Department of Temporal Investigations to deal with the consequences to the timestream that the rest of the Galaxy has to live with day by day. But when history as we know it could be wiped out at any moment by time warriors from the future, misused relics of ancient races, or accident-prone starships, only the most disciplined, obsessive, and unimaginative government employees have what it takes to face the existential uncertainty of it all on a daily basis . . . and still stay sane enough to complete their assignments. That’s where Agents Lucsly and Dulmur come in—stalwart and unflappable, these men are the Federation’s unsung anchors in a chaotic universe. Together with their colleagues in the DTI—and with the help and sometimes hindrance of Starfleet’s finest—they do what they can to keep the timestream, or at least the paperwork, as neat and orderly as they are. But when a series of escalating temporal incursions threatens to open a new front of the history-spanning Temporal Cold War in the twenty-fourth century, Agents Lucsly and Dulmur will need all their investigative skill and unbending determination to stop those who wish to rewrite the past for their own advantage, and to keep the present and the future from devolving into the kind of chaos they really, really hate.

In The Hours Have Lost Their Clock, Grafton Tanner charts the rise of nostalgia in an era knocked out of time. Nostalgia is the defining emotion of our age. Political leaders promise a return to yesteryear. Old movies are remade and cancelled series are rebooted. Veterans reenact past wars, while the displaced across the world long for home. But who is behind this collective ache for a home in the past? Do we need to eliminate nostalgia, or just cultivate it better? And what is at stake if we make the wrong choice? Moving from the fight over Confederate monuments to the birth of homeland security to the mourning of species extinction, Grafton Tanner traces nostalgiaÕs ascent in the twenty-first century, revealing its power as both a consequence of our unstable time and a defense against it. With little faith in a future of climate change and economic anxiety, many have turned to nostalgia to weather the present, while powerful elites exploit it for their own gain. An exploration into the politics of loss and yearning, The Hours Have Lost Their Clock is an urgent call to take nostalgia seriously. The very future depends on it.

"What an amazing theme park," Dad exclaimed. "Let's go home." And so, ironically, begins the greatest family adventure of a lifetime! Ten-year-old Ben has arrived at that dreadful moment in life where one wonders whether having a childlike imagination is, well... just too childish. In fact, it wasn't long ago that he loved going to theme parks. Honestly, he really... did. But now: 1) Ben's favorite park has magically imprisoned him, 2) the attractions within it have become, shall we say, "alive," 3) their characters have put him on trial for a ridiculous yet perplexing shortcoming, 4) an alien vacuum cleaner intends to bulldoze Earth into a planetary theme park, and 5) if Ben, his sister, and his irritating cousin don't escape by the time the menacing clock tower strikes thirteen, they are doomed to become pieces of the park themselves. (Watch Out For) Thirteen O'Clock is a joyride of adventure, wordplay, and comedy meant for all ages but targeting the middle-grade reader. Set inside the many "lands" of the world-famous Spooky Times theme park, this rollicking odyssey features characters like the bumbling secret Agent Whoops, the decidedly unhelpful Annoying Seagull, the barbaric Flying Vikings (who love bashing in heads only a little less than singing a catchy chart-topper), the Wishy-Washy Witches (all of whom are sort of evil but not really...it just depends), the superhero Wormest (whose superpowers last only as long as nobody informs him he has them), and Prosto: the Automated-Vacuum-Cleaner-But-Aspiring-Intergalactic-Conqueror! Between the action and humor is a heartwarming story about what family means, whether growing up to "be cool" demands leaving your childlike imagination behind, and why you should never let seven proboscis monkeys represent you in a trial before the alligator queen. (Don't scoff. Ben found it quite made sense at the time.)
