John Waggoner (1643-1716), his wife, Rachell, and their five children emigrated from the Upper Rhine River area of south Germany, through England, to America, ca. 1670, and settled in South Farnham Parish, Essex County, Virginia. Descendants listed lived in Virginia, Indiana and elsewhere. Record chiefly follows the line of descent from John Waggoner to Zeph Wagner (1873-1937), who was born in Martin County, Indiana, and died in Stoddard County, Missouri, and his children.

John Waggoner was born in 1758 in Wasselonne, Alsace, France and immigrated to Frederick, now Washington, county, Maryland. He was a soldier in the Revolutionary War, moved in 1809 to Perry county, Ohio. He died in Sandusky county, Ohio, in 1842.
