The catalogue of the sold-out exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago, a rich and unprecedented exploration of Chicago’s embrace of Claude Monet’s modernism "Monet and Chicago is a stunner."—The Chicago Tribune (exhibition review) In 1903, the Art Institute of Chicago became the first American museum to buy a painting by Claude Monet (1840–1926), beginning a tradition of collecting that has inextricably connected this midwestern city to the French Impressionist master. Tracing Chicago’s unique relationship with the artist, this generously illustrated volume not only features well-known works in the Art Institute’s holdings, such as the six Stacks of Wheat paintings and four Water Lilies, but also includes works on paper and rarely seen still lifes, landscapes, and photographic material from private Chicago collections. Stunning reproductions of details at actual size, a delightful essay by Adam Gopnik, and a richly illustrated chronology combine to reveal the depth of the city’s continuing devotion to an adopted artistic hero.

The cinema of Nigeria, often referred to as "Nollywood" is a term coined in the mid-1990s to describe Nigeria's vibrant, film industry consists of movies produced in the country but watched all over Africa and largely by Africans in the diaspora. The history and development of the Nigerian motion picture industry is sometimes generally classified in four main eras: the Colonial era, Golden Age, Video film era and the emerging New Nigerian cinema. The book presents a selection of photographic portraits by Iké Udé depicting some of the major Nigerian actors and actress, television presenters, directors and producers: from Genevieve Nnaji, Alexx Ekubo and Kunle Afolayan to Gideon Okeke, Chioma Ude and Osas Ighodaro. With his ongoing photographic self-portraits, Nigerian-born Iké Udé explores a world of dualities: photographer/performance artist, artist/spectator, African/postnationalist, mainstream/ marginal, individual/everyman and fashion/art. As a Nigerian born, New York based artist, conversant with the world of fashion and celebrity, Udé gives conceptual aspects of performance and representation a new vitality, melding his own theatrical selves and multiple personae with his art.

Following the example of music publication, Source Books in Architecture offers an alternative to the traditional architectural monograph. If one is interested in hearing music, he or she simply buys the desired recording. If, however, one wishes to study a particular piece in greater depth, it is possible to purchase the score--the written code that more clearly elucidates the structure, organization, and creative process that brings the work into being. This series is offered in the same spirit. Each Source Book focuses on the work of a particular architect or on a special topic in contemporary architecture and is meant to expose the foundations and details of the work in question. The work is documented through early studies, models, renderings, working drawings, writings, and photographs at a level of detail that allows complete and careful study of a project from conception to completion. The graphic component is accompanied by commentary from the architect and critics that further explore the technical and cultural content of the work.
