If there's one event that the art world venerates above all others, it's the Venice Biennale, inaugurated in 1895 and still going strong. In 2019 this long-running showcase celebrates its 58th edition, titled 'May You Live in Interesting Times'. There's so much art to see during its six month run that it can be difficult to get a handle on it all - hence this guide. It's split into the following sections: EXHIBITION CHECKLIST: Every one of the 101 National Pavilions and Collateral Events is listed in alphabetical order, along with 30 highlights from the many general art exhibitions that coincide. You'll find descriptions, addresses, opening times and whether they're free or not, plus space to add comments and ratings. ARTIST CHECKLIST: Similarly listed are the 84 individual artists in main show, 'May You Live in Interesting Times'. With each exhibitor showing works in the two main venues of the Giardini and Arsenale, there will be a huge amount of inspiring new art to see, so use this Artist Checklist to keep tabs as you go along. EXHIBITION MAPS: The maps show every exhibition listed, plus all the waterbus (vaporetto) stops, so you can head for art hot-spots, then easily see what else is nearby. The numbers refer to the Exhibition Checklist, which gives full addresses. LINED AND BLANK JOURNAL PAGE SECTION: At the end of this book there is space for your own notes and responses. The first part has lined pages for writing; the second part has blank pages for sketches and visual notes.
