This publication forms a supplement to CIBSE Knowledge Series KS7: Variable flow pipework systems (CIBSE, 2006). It explains how to design re-circulating heating and cooling water systems incorporating variable speed pumps utilising two alternative valve solutions not covered in KS7, these being centralised valve modules and pressure independent control valves (PICVs).

This book compiles the latest research, development, and application of VRF systems with contributions from various experts who pioneered and contributed to the development of the VRF system. This book presents the fundamental issues related to the real application and behaviour of the VRF system based on the long-term monitoring of the installed system. With our experience of pandemic which COVID-19 is an airborne, the spread of the virus is very fast. With this, the heating, ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) system is a major player in the maintenance and control of indoor environment to minimize the spread of the virus. As the variable refrigerant flow (VRF) system is a versatile HVAC system in which it can operate at different conditions, the application of the VRF system is very important to control the indoor environmental conditions. Thus, the publication of this book is important with the present situation and the future possible situation which the control of indoor spaces is very important. With this, this book will serve as a reference for building designer, contractors, building regulators and students.

This book introduces novel methods for leak and blockage detection in pipelines. The leak happens as a result of ageing pipelines or extreme pressure forced by operational error or valve rapid variation. Many factors influence blockage formation in pipes like wax deposition that leads to the formation and eventual growth of solid layers and deposition of suspended solid particles in the fluids. In this book, initially, different categories of leak detection are overviewed. Afterwards, the observability and controllability of pipeline systems are analysed. Control variables can be usually presented by pressure and flow rates at the start and end points of the pipe. Different cases are considered based on the selection of control variables to model the system. Several theorems are presented to test the observability and controllability of the system. In this book, the leakage flow in the pipelines is studied numerically to find the relationship between leakage flow and pressure difference. Removing leakage completely is almost impossible; hence, the development of a formal systematic leakage control policy is the most reliable approach to reducing leakage rates.

Thoroughly revised, this book provides the reader with an understanding of the principles and practices of testing and balancing (TAB) heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) air and water systems. For the novice and the experienced testing and balancing technician, it is a field reference book of procedures, equations, and information tables. Divided into five parts, Part I has general and specific balancing procedures for constant air volume systems, variable air volume systems, return air systems, and fans and fan performance. Part II covers testing and balancing fume hood systems and cleanrooms, commissioning HVAC systems, centrifugal pumps and pump performance, analog and digital controls and water balancing procedures using flow meters, system components, and temperatures. Part III covers fans, pumps, air distribution, water distribution, motors, electrical, fluid flow, psychrometrics, refrigeration, and instrument usage and care. Part IV includes equations and tables. New to this edition, Part V has information and additional test and balance procedures and graphics for chapters 1-7 and 13-14. TAB Data and Test forms are in the new addendum as well. • Provides the readers with revised information about the principles and practices of testing and balancing (TAB) heating • Represents a field reference guide for both the novice and experienced testing and balancing technician • Includes a new section with information and additional test and balance procedures and graphics
