The story of the The Vanishing Path came to me, a grandfather of eighty years, while I was in the back of a van with four of my grandchildren. Trevor was on my left, Nieva on my right, Joe up to the right, and Daniel next to Joe on the left. My daughter Glory and her husband Jacob were up front. Trevor asked me to tell them a story. We had about an hour and a half of travel time ahead of us. I just started with two children playing ball in the backyard, and the rest just came to me. The van was quiet, and all heard the story as it unfolded. I honestly had no idea where the story was going. It reminded me of the many stories I had told my daughter when she was at their age. As usual, questions were ask here and there, which actually aided the story as it went along. When I finished with, "But what about the gingerbread?" I had no idea what came next. The van was silent. Then Trevor said, "Where did you hear the story, Grampa?" I said, "Nowhere, I just made it up." Again, "Did you read it somewhere?" "I just made it up right now," I said. My daughter leaned back and said, "Dad, you need to write this story down so we can have it for the kids." Joe also encouraged me to do this also. I came home and wrote it out, so now what? Watching television, I saw an advertisement for Christian Faith Publishing. One phone call to a publishing specialist, and it went from there. I believe this story came to me from the Lord for you, the reader, as well as for my grandchildren. I also believe a sequel is in the making.

The Feynman path integrals are becoming increasingly important in the applications of quantum mechanics and field theory. The path integral formulation of quantum anomalies, i.e. the quantum breaking of certain symmetries, can now cover all the known quantum anomalies in a coherent manner. In this book the authors provide an introduction to the path integral method in quantum field theory and its applications to the analyses of quantum anomalies. No previous knowledge of field theory beyond advanced undergraduate quantum mechanics is assumed. The book provides the first coherent introductory treatment of the path integral formulation of chiral and Weyl anomalies, with applications to gauge theory in two and four dimensions, conformal field theory and string theory. Explicit and elementary path integral calculations of most of the quantum anomalies covered are given. The conceptual basis of the path integral bosonization in two-dimensional theory, which may have applications to condensed matter theory, for example, is clarified. This book deals with geometric and topological aspects of discrete groups. The main topics are hyperbolic groups due to Gromov, automatic group theory, invented and developed by Epstein, whose subjects are groups that can be manipulated by computers, and Kleinian group theory, which enjoys the longest tradition and the richest contents within the theory of discrete subgroups of Lie groups. What is common among these three classes of groups is that when seen as geometric objects, they have the properties of a negatively curved space rather than a positively curved space. As Kleinian groups are groups acting on a hyperbolic space of constant negative curvature, the technique employed to study them is that of hyperbolic manifolds, typical examples of negatively curved manifolds. Although hyperbolic groups in the sense of Gromov are much more general objects than Kleinian groups, one can apply for them arguments and techniques that are quite similar to those used for Kleinian groups. Automatic groups are further general objects, including groups having properties of spaces of curvature 0. Still, relationships between automatic groups and hyperbolic groups are examined here using ideas inspired by the study of hyperbolic manifolds. In all of these three topics, there is a ``soul'' of negative curvature upholding the theory. The volume would make a fine textbook for a graduate-level course
