Discover the mysterious, controversial, and sometimes downright eerie history of flights that didn't end as planned. The history of aviation is full of accounts of history's most spectacular flights. But what about the ones from which someone failed to return? - A celebrated millionaire--who also happened to be the world's foremost aviator--lifted off in a small plane one clear morning in 2007 and disappeared. - The glamorous son of a beloved fallen president took off on a hazy summer night in 1999 and plunged himself and two others into the Atlantic Ocean. - A US Navy blimp landed one Sunday morning in 1942 in the middle of a city street in California with no one aboard. Some of these "non-returns" occurred because of errors in judgment; others were intentional, and some resulted from causes still unknown. Get the full, meticulous account of the fascinating people involved in these flights, the mistakes they made, and the ways in which their "flight of no return" affected the world. Pilot and aviation writer Steven A. Ruffin covers the entire 230-year span of manned flight in all types of aircraft through war and peace. Balloons, blimps, biplanes, jets, and spaceships have all suffered mishaps over the years. Don't miss the mystery, adventure, intrigue, and a sprinkling of the supernatural and extraterrestrial in Flights of No Return.

In Angel on the Wing, Joan Zeller shares how she survived a plane crash that took sixty-five lives in February 1959. She was a stewardess on American Airlines Flight 320, returning to New York from Chicago. Close to midnight on that foggy, cold evening, the plane crashed into the choppy waters of the East River on approach to LaGuardia Airport. Joan Zellers memoir vividly brings to life the events of the crash, the peril passengers and crew experienced following impact, the time spent in the frigid waters in total darkness before their dramatic rescue, and her recovery from traumatic injuries sustained in the accident. The author was inspired to pen her story when she came across a website that chronicled the events of that evening, listing the names of those who perished, as well as the eight survivors. Following the story was an opportunity to respond in an open letter. After reading pleas from family members of the deceased she recognized an invaluable opportunity as eyewitness and survivor, to help bring solace and closure to the families of those who lost loved ones that fateful night.

On May 11, 1996, at 1413:42 eastern daylight time, a Douglas DC-9-32 crashed into the Everglades about 10 minutes after takeoff from Miami International Airport, Miami, Florida. The airplane was being operated by ValuJet Airlines, Inc., as flight 592 and was on its way to Atlanta, Georgia. Both pilots, the three flight attendants, and all 105 passengers were killed. The National Transportation Safety Board determined that the probable cause of the accident, was a fire in the airplane's cargo compartment that was initiated by the actuation of one or more oxygen generators being improperly carried as cargo.
