This book is a compilation of nude photographs taken from 2016 to 2019, entirely within the city limits of, primarily, New Orleans and New York City. A few were taken in Venice, Lisbon and Berlin. Outdoor photos show the Hudson or Mississippi Rivers, various parks, bayous, and reserves, or the streets of the cities. Indoor photos were shot in apartments, hotels, friend's homes or other venues, mainly in the New Orleans Warehouse District or New York's SoHo neighborhood. This book also contains a sampling of the Ice Demons series (think vampires, but with ice instead of blood!) This series grew out of a shoot for a womens group's Mardi Gras ball and took on it's own life! Forty-seven different models are included in this book. All photos were shot digitally and in color, using a Canon EOS 5D Mark III camera and, mainly, a Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L Zoom Lens.

The tentatively titled "Urban Nudes Project" began in 2010 as a series of urban nudes shot at nighton 1600 speed Fuji Neopan black and white film using only the existing city lights. It rapidly evolvedaway from film simply because of the loss of any competent film processors in the area. Thatcoupled with the extreme costs of buying and processing this type of film.It didn't take long for the restriction on using only existing light to be left behind as I started utilizingflashes and light stands and assistants. Eventually I got confident enough that we all weren't goingto be arrested that I started shooting during the day, too. Along the way we occasionally pushedthe envelope on how public we were when a girl dropped her coat. But somehow we suffered noarrests shooting this series.Within six month the original concept for the series had been pretty well distilled. And what I wasleft with became "The Naked City". A collection of over thirty gorgeous local women adventurousenough to run around the City of Providence (and sometimes Boston, though not usually) in variousstates of undress, in all sorts of weather, during all parts of the day. This book is a collection of my favorite 100 images from the series.

In Intoxicating Shanghai, Paul Bevan explores the work of a number of Chinese modernist figures in the fields of literature and the visual arts, with an emphasis on the literary group the New-sensationists and its equivalents in the Shanghai art world, examining the work of these figures as it appeared in pictorial magazines. It undertakes a detailed examination into the significance of the pictorial magazine as a medium for the dissemination of literature and art during the 1930s. The research locates the work of these artists and writers within the context of wider literary and art production in Shanghai, focusing on art, literature, cinema, music, and dance hall culture, with a specific emphasis on 1934 – ‘The Year of the Magazine’.
