Excerpt from Unto the Uttermost OF the things contained in the following pages, this is the sum -that the rainbow of divine propitiousness overarches-every life; that this redeemed earth is to all who dwell upon it the footstool of mercy; that plenitude of redeem ing power has, by the hand of the Crucified, been lodged in the world's heart; that divine grace is mightier than human sin that beneath the vilest sinner the ever-present Christ puts the saving strength of his atoning love to lift him up into the sunlight of pardon and purity; that the line of limitation in human redemption is drawn by man himself, not by God; that all sin involves eternal loss, all righteousness eternal gain; that the freedom of man as a moral being, and his consequent responsibility to God, continue for ever under conditions which render response to every moral requirement eternally possible; that. Excerpt from Saved to the Uttermost Our text is very strong. Uttermost is a strong word. Utter is to the end of things. The Greek word means two things, - utter most and evermore. These two English words come from the same Greek root. You will see evermore in the margin of your reference Bible which means that this is implied in the Greek. We have our choice of these words. We can say He saves us to the uttermost, or, we can declare He saves us evermore, or, if we desire to have the full meaning of the Greek and all that is in it, we take the two words and it will be in harmony with all Scripture. Then it will read, Wherefore He is able also to save them to the uttermost evermore that come unto God by Him. This is the full meaning of this Scripture text, and it agrees with the whole word of God. Jesus can save a man to the uttermost and He can do it ever more. Excerpt from The Uttermost Star and Other Gleams of Fancy An author putting the finishing touches to his manuscript and writing his Introduction resembles a hostess preparing to receive her guests. For weeks she has been engaged in making the most careful preparations for their entertainment. Now the evening has arrived; her great hour has come; she is about to take up her position at the door. Her anxious eye wanders restlessly over the polished floors, the pictured walls, the cosy chairs, the faultless tables - everything. She sees that every flower is showing to the best advantage; that every noble vase and marble statuette is in its place; and that every lamp is casting its softest, loveliest glow. But what is that? The sound of wheels! They draw up at the gate! Throw the doors wide open! The first guests are arriving! Welcome! a thousand welcomes! If those who accept the hospitality of these pages find in them half the pleasure that their preparation has afforded me, I shall count myself the happiest of hosts. Excerpt from II. Timothy 2: 15: A Course of Study in Personal Work The Christian Endeavor movement began in a revival, and it has always flourished in the evangelistic atmosphere. It has appropriated to itself the words of the Master to the early church as recorded in Acts 1: 8, "But ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost parts of the earth." While training and developing along every line of service, its pledge and prayer-meeting have steadily held before the young people the idea that they were called to be outspoken witnesses for Christ.
