In these pages, Kevin Crossley-Holland visits the foreign land of childhood. First memories as a war-baby; starting a museum; being coached at Lord's; living above the spring line below the great chalk cross at Whiteleaf in the Chiltern Hills, and roaming in the beechwoods; holidays on the north Norfolk coast; falling under the spell of Arthurian legend... Above all, The Hidden Roads revolves around the sanctity and splintering of family, and the bonding of brother and sister, and is steeped in the landscapes and layers of England.

When Susan inherited East View House, she had no idea that its location was the hub of international criminal activities. Neither did Richard Morgan, together with his partner Big Bob McAlister, when asked to investigate the activities of a suspect , thought to be acting suspiciously in his horse racing activities, would turn out to be the master mind behind the international criminal activities centred around East View House. Neither did Richard realise the fire in him that Susan would ignite, nor the dangers that he and Bob would face, as their investigation takes them to the coastal areas of Suffolk, agricultural Norfolk and across the North Sea to the Netherlands and Germany. From horse race fixing, illegal immigrant workers and under aged trafficking, Richard and Bob investigate, whilst their working partnership goes from Strength to Strength.

Bill Green was born in England in 1936. He was evacuated at the outbreak of World War II in 1939. After the war he went to Boarding School and at age seventeen joined the Royal Navy; serving in submarines for 25 years. He now lives in Perth, Western Australia. People who read this book made the following comments:- alex 13 April 2011 I found BILLY one of those rare books you read which you cant stop reading but you dont want to finishI hope Bill Green writes a sequel. elpokid 2 May 2011 BILLY What a great read. The book made me realise how hard and cruel life was during and after the war. My only disappointment was that the book had to come to an end. I found myself rationing my reading time just to stretch out the remaining pages. jobgre 9 May 2011 BILLY This book gives a very descriptive account of how life was for evacuees during World War 2. What is also apparent is that life for the author and his brother were not just hard when evacuated, but did not change when they returned to the care of their father and stepmother. An extremely good read which I would recommend

When nine friends set out from England in 1969 to travel the world in a double-decker bus called 'Hairy Pillock', little did they know that they would become honorary citizens of Texas, hold the keys to New York, release a record in Australia, perform for the Shah and Empress of Iran, and appear on countless television and radio shows around the world. Their epic three-year journey, which began as a bet with the landlord of their local pub, took them across perilous roads through Europe to Iran and Afghanistan, through the Khyber Pass to Pakistan and India, then to Australia and, finally, the United States and Canada. Initially planning on getting work as export salesmen, they soon had to supplement their meagre funds by performing the folk songs they sang in the pubs back home, after which they achieved minor stardom as The Philanderers throughout Australia and the US. This light-hearted account follows the group on their trip across deserts and mountains, as they undertook an incredible expedition that would be impossible today.
