She wants to negotiate a comfortable marriage; he wants her in his bed Naval captain Jules Redepenning has spent his adult life away from England, and at war. He rarely thinks of the bride he married for her own protection, and if he does, he remembers the child he left after their wedding seven years ago. He doesn't expect to find her in his Cape Town home, a woman grown and a lovely one, too. Mia Redepenning sails to Cape Town to nurse her husband's dying mistress and adopt his children. She hopes to negotiate a comfortable married life with the man while she's there. Falling in love is not on her to-do list. Before they can do more than glimpse a possible future together, their duties force them apart. At home in England, Mia must fight for the safety of Jules's children. Imprisoned in France, Jules must battle for his self-respect and his life. Only by vanquishing their foes can they start to make their dreams come true. Not your usual Regency Jude Knight writes historical fiction with a large helping of romance, a splash of Regency, and a side order of suspense.

Communist and capitalist states alike were scarred by the economic shocks of the 1970s. Why did only communist governments fall in their wake? Fritz Bartel argues that Western democracies were insulated by neoliberalism. While austerity was fatal to the legitimacy of communism, democratic politicians could win votes by pushing market discipline.

Heartbreaks could break you down, would resist you to believe in life again. However we do realize at the end it is just a “phase”. A phase where your mom is there to relive your faith in love, where your dad is there to help you get over it all, where siblings are there to hold you upright and where your friends are there to give you the best piece of advice. Unkept Promises was written in a short period of time and is meant to entertain the readers and to share a story which is very close to the author’s heart. Cheers to all the readers.

“To understand trends in the Roman Catholic Church since Vatican Council II (1962-1965), Finbarr Corr’s new book Broken Promises is required reading. With his skill as an Irish storyteller that was vividly evident in his prior books, Corr, a former priest, constructs an important new window on what he describes as ‘the Church’s third major crisis since Jesus Christ established it on Simon Peter, the Rock.’ Drawing on decades of vital experience as a crusading priest, innovative family therapist, and provocative educator and author, Dr. Corr asks if the Church can survive its failure to follow through on the dictates of Vatican Council II which was initiated by Pope John XXIII to ‘open up the windows of the church and let in some fresh air.’ Dr. Corr provides a fresh look at the fifty years since Vatican II and presents a rich study of the Church’s relationship to the modern world. Broken Promises provides new insights into this challenging topic.” Tom O’Connell, B.A., M.A., S.F.O. Broken Promises is the third book in a trilogy spanning 18 years. Bruce Kushnick, author, senior telecom analyst and industry insider, lays out, in all of the gory details, how America paid over $400 billion to be the first fully fiber optic-based nation yet ended up 27th in the world for high-speed Internet (40th in upload speeds). But this is only a part of this story. With over four million people filing with the FCC to 'Free the Net', one thing is abundantly clear -- customers know something is terribly wrong. Every time you pay your bills you notice that the price of your services keeps going up, you don't have a serious choice for Internet (ISP), broadband or cable service, much less competitors fighting for your business, or maybe you can't even get very fast broadband service. Worse, over the last few years, America's ISPs and cable companies have been rated "the most hated companies in America". While Net Neutrality concerns (detailed in Broken Promises) are important, the actions are only a first step and will most likely be tied up in court for the next few years. More importantly, it does not resolve most of the customer issues and there is nothing else on the horizon that will fix what's broken. Broken Promises documents the massive overcharging and failure to properly upgrade the networks, the deceptive billing practices, the harms caused from a lack of competition, the gaming and manipulating of the regulatory system, from the states to the FCC, and exposes the companies' primary strategy: How much can we get away with? There has been little, if any, regard for the customers they serve.--From http://newnetworks.com/bookbrokenpromises/ --(viewed on June 12, 2015).

Beware of the company you keep. K’wan’s urban fiction coming-of-age novel, Promise Broken, is set in the gritty streets of Newark, New Jersey. The story follows seventeen-year-old Promise Mohammed as she attempts to uphold friendships and new relationships—even if they lead to her demise. After Promise’s mother dies in a tragic car accident, it leaves a void in Promise’s life that she is yearning to fill. This titular novel finds Promise spiraling into a life of crime and drug affiliation by the company she chooses to keep. Also coping with abandonment and a lifelong broken commitment from her biological father, Promise ultimately has two goals: to graduate from high school and to be loved. But can she find the love that she seeks from her aunt Dell, two best friends, Mouse and Keys, or drug-dealer Asher—the man who captivates her—despite the fact that each relationship will lead to life-altering events? Only time will tell.

The city is Macao, the Portuguese settlement on the China Coast, as it was more than 200 years ago. The promises are those made by Englishmen to marry their Macao mistresses, only to leave them abandoned and their children bastards. Martha Merop and her English lover are unique in this period. He, son of the founder of Lloyd's and cousin of the philosopher, Jeremy Bentham, was one of the first merchants to oppose the trade in opium. She, Chinese, abandoned at birth and sold into prostitution at the age of thirteen, became an international trader in her own right, the richest woman on the China Coast and Macao's greatest public benefactress. This moving novel that captures the time and place so convincingly is a historical reconstruction of the years 1780 to 1795 when the two were together. It is based on oral tradition handed down through generations in Macao, and on documents that survive about them in Macao, Lisbon and London. Austin Coates identified Martha Merop’s lover, about whom little was known. The documents about him confirmed the traditional Macao story, and the outcome was this book.
