Download The Concept of Unity in Public International Law Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
'Fragmentation' has become a defining, albeit controversial, metaphor of international law scholarship in the era of globalisation. Some scholars see it as a new development, others as history repeating itself; some approach it as a technical issue and some as the reflection of deeper political struggles. But there is near-consensus about the fact that the established vision of international law as a unitary whole is under threat. At the core of the fragmentation debate lies the concept of unity, but this is hardly ever rationalised and is more assumed than explained. Its meaning remains vague and intuitive. 'The Concept of Unity in Public International Law' attempts to dispel that vagueness by exploring the various possible meanings of the concept of unity in international law. However, eschewing one grand theory of unity, it identifies and compares five candidates. Intentionally pluralistic in its outlook, the book does not engage in normative arguments about whether international law is or should be unitary but seeks to show instead that the concept of unity is contested and that discourses on fragmentation are necessarily contingent. The thesis on which the book is based won the 2009 Prize for best doctoral thesis from the Association des professeurs de droit du Québec.

Download Visions of African Unity Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
This collection of essays analyzes different iterations of African unity, exploring the political and cultural visions that informed projects aimed at African unification. It explores the cultural, economic and non-state aspects of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) as the principal institution dedicated to the cooperation of African states, from its establishment in 1963 to its transformation into the African Union (AU) in 2000, as well as how ideas of African unity shaped the Cold War and African liberation struggles. Bringing together contributors from a diverse range of disciplinary backgrounds across Africa, Europe and the US, this book investigates the ideological origins and historiography of Pan-African and unification projects, and considers how African intellectuals, leaders and populations engaged with these ideas.

Download Philosophy of Unity Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
This book is borne out of the author’s desire to introduce Philosophy of Unity as one of the emerging philosophical paradigms tasked with the responsibility of offering practical ideas to contend with the alarming crisis, disunity, division, disassociation, war, terrorism, distrust and the general unrest that have engulfed the present human society. The author decries human disjointedness from the original purpose of love and the need for complementary living. Thus, attributing the challenges so experienced in the recent human tension-laden society to this negation. The book stands out as a portal of plethora of knowledge that unravels love as the ultimate unifier of the multiplicity of things in the universe, of which the unity and the separation of things in the world are necessitated by it. The author reasoned that, without love, the idea of the universe is inconceivable. The principle of inclusiveness is adopted by the author to drive home the point that the warring opposites, the conflicting issues and the fragments characterizing the universe should not be taken as reasons for division and disunity. Rather, it should be seen as means through which human limitations can be overcome if these different entities are brought together for the overall good of human beings. Hence, all fragments and their opposites are necessary since it is by their existence that our individuals and collective essences are fully put to use. The book is highly recommended for the general public, countries, especially those with multiple religions and ethnicities. It is very relevant to scholars in the areas of Philosophy, Religion, Political Science, Public and International Studies, Public Administration and Sociology. It is also useful to those who study or engage in conflict resolutions, especially in the crisis-prone communities. All lovers of wisdom will find the book useful in their respective areas of research.
