Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder has three main primary symptoms under which every other symptom falls, including inattentiveness and hyperactivity or impulsivity, or a combination of the two. Boys and men primarily have the hyperactivity/impulsivity form of ADHD, while girls and women primarily have the less common inattentive form of ADHD. Because of this, it has always been assumed and believed that the condition was primarily found in young, school-aged boys. However, years of extensive research has proven that this is not the case. Medical professionals now believe that many women went undiagnosed as young girls, and this is the reason for the staggering numbers showing there to be so many more men and boys to have ADHD. In all reality, ADHD is likely pretty evenly spread between the genders. The reason that so many girls and women have gone undiagnosed is because so many of the inattentive symptoms can be easily explained away as character flaws or poor personality traits. Many girls are often misdiagnosed as well because ADHD symptoms can be so similar to many other conditions including anxiety, depression, and other mood disorders. Thankfully, we are finally at a turning point and women are starting to get the help we have been needing. Many young girls have learned to withdraw and isolate from such an early age because they knew something was "off" but couldn't tell what. More medical professionals today are properly trained in diagnosing and treating women with ADHD than ever before. Understanding Women with ADHD: Strategies for Women Diagnosed in Adulthood; Manage your Symptoms as an Adult Living with Attention Deficit Disorder and Survive Living with Adult ADHD goes into more detail about all the above. It explains exactly what ADHD is, what is looks like in women specifically, why so many girls and women remain undiagnosed/misdiagnosed, and offers a plethora of strategies and other tips to help manage your symptoms and survive the chaos of living with ADHD. Women with Attention Deficit Disorder, psychotherapist Sari Solden's, groundbreaking book, explains how every year, millions of withdrawn little girls and chronically overwhelmed women go undiagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder because they don't fit the stereotypical profile: they're not fast-talking, hyperactive, or inattentive, and they are not male. This pioneering book explores treatment and counseling options, and uses real-life case histories to examine the special challenges women with AD/HD face, such as the shame of not fulfilling societal expectations. Solden explains that AD/HD affects just as many women as men, and often results in depression, disorganization, anxiety, and underachievement. Included in this revised edition is a brand new chapter on friendship challenges for women with AD/HD. Three empowering steps -- restructuring one's life, renegotiating relationships, and redefining self-image -- help women take control of their lives and enjoy success on their own terms. "Sari Solden has used her personal and professional experience to shine some light into the dark closet inhabited by far too many ADD women... She empowers ADD women by validating their experience as worthwhile human beings who struggle with serious organizational problems in many areas of their lives." Many mothers only learn they have been living with ADHD after their child begins to have symptoms. Once the parent addresses the diagnosis with the child, the mother will often realize that she has been living with the same exact symptoms for her entire life too. The mother will then be diagnosed with the condition herself. Women need to educate themselves about ADHD, particularly related to adulthood and motherhood. Research shows that only about 12% of adult women get treatment for ADHD. If a woman is struggling with disorganization, restlessness, focusing, and other similar issues, she should consult a medical professional to seek a diagnosis and seek medical care options. It is absolutely critical to treat the root issue. In this book, we are going to take a look at exactly what parenting with ADHD looks like, specifically for moms who have ADHD. The chapters will be broken down as such: The Surprising Amount of Moms Who Have ADHD, What It Feels Like Parenting With ADHD, When Both Mom and Child Have ADHD, Do's and Don'ts of Parenting With ADHD, Strategies for Moms With ADHD, and Support for Moms With ADHD. By the end of the book, you will have a better understanding of what ADHD in adulthood looks like, particularly related to motherhood. You will understand why so many women go undiagnosed until adulthood and the key symptoms to be on the lookout for if you think you yourself or a loved one might have ADHD. You will also learn what to do when both you and your children have ADHD. There will be an entire chapter on several different do's and don'ts of parenting when either the parent or the child has ADHD, as well as an entire chapter with 25 different strategies for moms who have ADHD. Then, finally, there is a chapter with several different ways you can support your mom friends who have ADHD. Motherhood is hard enough as it is - but when you add ADHD in the mix, whether you yourself or your child has the condition, it only makes things tougher, on both you and your child. This book is full of little tidbits of wisdom and strategies to help both you and your children live a healthier and happier life. Have you been struggling with ADHD?
