Have you ever wondered why all the traditional bedtime stories have such a brutal, conservative slant and bias? Think about it. The standard formula -- kid misbehaves, kid gets caught misbehaving, kid gets torn to bits by bears, eaten by wolves or slow-roasted by witches. Are THOSE the images YOU want to send your kid off to sleep with? Wouldn't you rather be able to tuck your kids in at night with some positive, life-affirming, choice-affirming PROGRESSIVE bedtime tales? Sure you would. That's why I offer my new book: "UNCLE BILL'S BEDTIME STORIES FOR PROGRESSIVES" A lot of these stories have already appeared either on my blog or on my Technorati column. But many have not. 30 stories in all, also, an appendix of many, many foto-shopped funnies for your kids to enjoy! Now, because I can spend Conservative money as well as Liberal money, I've thrown in a few Fables for Conservatives. I'll be producing this as an audiobook as well, with the conservative fables being read by none-other than the Prince of Darkness, Satan. If your kids have a grasp of "irony" they'll enjoy these as well. The conservatives will think the whole book supports THEIR point of view. Remember, they think Stephen Colbert is an actual conservative. Send your kids off to dreamland with stories that don't dumb it down for them. Your kids are hip and smart, and we NEED the next generation to be hipper and smarter than WE were. We need them to realize that TMZ is NOT the news! We need them to realize that FOX, MSNBC, CBS, NBC, CNN and ABC are all corporate-owned and tell us what THEY want us to know and believe. We need the NEXT generation to have the capacity to THINK FOR THEMSELVES. This is my contribution. Enjoy.

I have been writing poems and short stories for the entertainment of friends and loved ones for many years. My family has always urged me to share them with others and so I have. Some of them are funny, some sad, and most have a moral to impart. The stories and poems that I write are for everyone. I sincerely hope that others will enjoy reading them and wish to share them as well.

Following her prize–winning collection Break Any Woman Down, Dana Johnson returns with a collection of bold stories set mostly in downtown Los Angeles that examine large issues –love, class, race – and how they influence and define our most intimate moments. In "The Liberace Museum," a mixed–race couple leave the South toward the destination of Vegas, crossing miles of road and history to the promised land of consumption; in "Rogues," a young man on break from college lands in his brother's Inland Empire neighborhood during a rash of unexplained robberies; in "She Deserves Everything She Gets," a woman listens to the strict advice given to her spoiled niece about going away to college, reflecting on her own experience and the night she lost her best friend; and in the collection's title story, a man setting down roots in downtown L.A. is haunted by the specter of both gentrification and a young female tourist, whose body was found in the water tower of a neighboring building. With deep insight into character, intimate relationships, and the modern search for personal freedom, In the Not Quite Dark is powerful new work that feels both urgent and timeless.
