This aspect Of the work has been preserved, and in the preparation Of the revised edition the original text has required little alteration. Naturally, the statistical matter has had to be revised considerably, but altera tions in the text have been made only where necessary to bring the information up to date. Since 1912 there has been the amazing growth of the Empire tobacco industry, and in this edition will be found some reference to its development; but, as with other features which had to be included, such reference has been treated as amplification of the story, not as an addition.
