Together they must defy a heartless curse. Tin is the most famous fae in Oz for all the wrong reasons. Cursed with a stone heart, he is the perfect assassin: ruthless, efficient, and merciless with thousands of kills to his name. When his old friend, Lion, offers him a small fortune to deliver Dorothy to the South for his lover to wear the girl's head as her own, Tin doesn't hesitate to accept the unsavory deal. Dorothy Gale lost everything-her family to illness, her dog to age, and now her farm to foreclosure. The entire town thought she was crazy for believing in a faerie world called Oz, but even after ten years have passed, she knows she is right. So when an emerald green portal opens in her wheat field, she jumps at the opportunity to return to the only place that ever felt like home. Tin wasn't expecting a vivacious, grown woman to step through the portal, just as Dorothy wasn't expecting Tin to have his stone heart back. But Oz has hidden dangerous lies behind glamour, trapped innocents in curses, and left the land in turmoil-none more so than the South. As Tin and Dorothy travel together for the second time in a decade, their lives begin to make sense again. In common with the editor of the first edition, my own personal involvement with tin chemistry began when I had the privilege of studying for a PhD degree under the supervision of Professor Alwyn G. Davies FRS at University College London (UCL) almost exactly 30 years ago. Then, following 21 years' service with the International Tin Research Institute, it was a great pleasure for me when the wheel turned full circle and, in 1994, Alwyn - now an Emeritus Professor - asked me to return to UCL as an Honorary Research Fellow in the Chemistry Department. One of my first tasks was when I received an invitation from Blackie A&P to edit the second edition of the Chemistry of Tin, which I was delighted to accept, since it enabled me to continued my life-long interest in tin chemistry and to maintain contact with my former friends and colleagues, many of whom have contributed to this book.

More than eight hundred sailors served aboard the Sterett during her hazardous and demanding duties in World War II. This is the story of those men and their beloved ship, recorded by a junior officer who served on the famous destroyer from her commissioning in 1939 to April 1943, when he was wounded at the Battle of Tulagi. Peppered with the kind of vivid, authentic details that could only be provided by a participant, the book is the saga of a gallant fighting ship that earned a Presidential Unit Citation for her part in the Third Battle of Savo Island, where she took on a battleship, cruiser, and destroyer and was the last to leave the fray. Calhoun's gripping and colorful account tells what it was like to be there during those furiously fought, close-range engagements. When published in hardcover in 1993, the book was widely praised as a good read loaded with rich and interesting details.

An alliance with Iran reinvigorates the Iraqi military and fuels its aggressive agenda. To prevent a total conquest of the region, Captain Patrick Dillon and a U.S. Army Heavy Brigade must stand against the Iraqi’s greater numbers and updated technology—all while the locals are hell-bent on grinding the small American force into the ancient desert sand. Against impossible odds, this brigade of American M1 Abrams tanks, Bradleys, and Apaches are left with only one option. They must do the impossible.
