This collection is a compilation of Thomas H. Kent's annotations, descriptions, and photographic reproductions of the Williams Savage diaries and bird paintings in the collections of the State Historical Society of Iowa (Des Moines). It includes: over 400 35mm color transparencies of the William Savage bird paintings; digital prints of the transparencies presented with Kent's identification of bird species, correlating citations from Savage's diaries, and other general commentary about the paintings; a set of digital prints arranged in taxonomic order of bird species; a descriptive list containing a history and evaluation of Savage's paintings; 61 pages of notes extracted from the Savage diaries related to birds, animals, family, events, and paintings; a file including writings by and about William Savage, photos of Savage and his environs, and various documents and letters; and four compact disks containing the digital versions of Kent's photography of the Savage collection.
