A remarkable account of the collapse of the Old South and the final years of a young boy’s privileged but afflicted life. LeRoy Wiley Gresham was born in 1847 to an affluent slave-holding family in Macon, Georgia. After a horrific leg injury left him an invalid, the educated, inquisitive, perceptive, and exceptionally witty twelve-year-old began keeping a diary in 1860—just as secession and the Civil War began tearing the country and his world apart. He continued to write even as his health deteriorated until both the war and his life ended in 1865. His unique manuscript of the demise of the Old South is published here for the first time in The War Outside My Window. LeRoy read books, devoured newspapers and magazines, listened to gossip, and discussed and debated important social and military issues with his parents and others. He wrote daily for five years, putting pen to paper with a vim and tongue-in-cheek vigor that impresses even now, more than 150 years later. His practical, philosophical, and occasionally Twain-like hilarious observations cover politics and the secession movement, the long and increasingly destructive Civil War, family pets, a wide variety of hobbies and interests, and what life was like at the center of a socially prominent wealthy family in the important Confederate manufacturing center of Macon. The young scribe often voiced concern about the family’s pair of plantations outside town, and recorded his interactions and relationships with servants as he pondered the fate of human bondage and his family’s declining fortunes. Unbeknownst to LeRoy, he was chronicling his own slow and painful descent toward death in tandem with the demise of the Southern Confederacy. He recorded—often in horrific detail—an increasingly painful and debilitating disease that robbed him of his childhood. The teenager’s declining health is a consistent thread coursing through his fascinating journals. “I feel more discouraged [and] less hopeful about getting well than I ever did before,” he wrote on March 17, 1863. “I am weaker and more helpless than I ever was.” Morphine and a score of other “remedies” did little to ease his suffering. Abscesses developed; nagging coughs and pain consumed him. Alternating between bouts of euphoria and despondency, he often wrote, “Saw off my leg.” The War Outside My Window, edited and annotated by Janet Croon with helpful footnotes and a detailed family biographical chart, captures the spirit and the character of a young privileged white teenager witnessing the demise of his world even as his own body slowly failed him. Just as Anne Frank has come down to us as the adolescent voice of World War II, LeRoy Gresham will now be remembered as the young voice of the Civil War South. Winner, 2018, The Douglas Southall Freeman Award

This is a story about my life and how I overcame Narcissistic abuse. I am an Empathic Rescuer. When we feel lonely or incomplete we open the door wide to Narcissists. Now on a Soul level, we bring them in so they bring us to crash and burn so we can become visible to ourselves and begin our Emotional Healing journey. Many of us feel like someone dropped us off and forgot to pick us back up! We feel like square pegs in round holes! Now there is a very good reason for that! How many of you sit outside, look at the stars and long for "home"? Does not make sense now does it, or does it? How many of you are frustrated at continually bringing the same type of partners into your relationships? Is there something we can do differently to get a different result? The answer is YES! I invite you to do your own research, don't take my word for some of the things I share with you as they are my understandings of situations. Have any of you noticed how the education system now a days disapproves of children asking questions? They just want children to regurgitate what they have been told. Governments don't like you questioning their official version of situations either! Your mind works best like a parachute, when it is open!

The Ship We Built is an expertly told epistolary middle grade novel about a trans boy learning to stand up for himself--especially to those he loves--and the power of finding a friend who treasures him for all that he is. "Incredibly good; by turns raw, sweet, horrifying, tender, and hopeful."--Laurie Halse Anderson, NYT bestselling and award-winning author of Speak and SHOUT Sometimes I have trouble filling out tests when the name part feels like a test too. . . . When I write letters, I love that you have to read all of my thoughts and stories before I say any name at all. You have to make it to the very end to know. Rowan has too many secrets to write down in the pages of a diary. And if he did, he wouldn't want anyone he knows to read them. He understands who he is and what he likes, but it's not safe for others to find out. Now the kids at school say Rowan's too different to spend time with. He's not the "right kind" of girl, and he's not the "right kind" of boy. His mom ignores him. And at night, his dad hurts him in ways he's not ready to talk about yet. Then Rowan discovers another way to share his secrets: letters. Letters he attaches to balloons and releases into the universe, hoping someone new will read them and understand. But when he befriends a classmate who knows what it's like to be lonely and scared, even at home, Rowan realizes there might already be a person he can trust right by his side.

Let There Be Light accompanies Bill Abrams on a time-traveling journey through history. Harnessing the energy of the sun’s ultraviolet light, his Light Assimilator enables him to travel on a voyage to discover the truth. His adventure takes him to the moments in time in which he discovers how the Ice Age fits into the Bible, the fate of the dinosaurs, the reasons why people lived to be hundreds of years old prior to the flood, and how, in fact, the flood itself could cover the whole earth. Mark Leonard, a veteran presenter at numerous youth conferences and church camps, weaves together the Bible’s truth with this tale of a time-traveling explorer. He tells how, after several test runs, Bill decides to make a journey back to first-century Palestine to see the temple in Jerusalem. Taking off, Bill made three loops around the area and with the ship angled in a southerly direction towards the equator; the landing gear and the wings began retracting. In the blink of an eye, the craft disappeared into nothingness. And so his adventures begin. Written for young adults, Let There Be Light will appeal to adult readers as well. If you enjoy stories that mix together adventure, engaging characters, and the discovery of deep scientific truths, then Let There Be Light will offer you a chance to go on an adventure that will change your view of the world and its history.
