Gathered together in this superb value omnibus are the first two books in The Clouded World series. Written by debut novelist Jay Amory, these are fast-paced, thrilling fantasy adventures. Imagine a city high in the sky comprised of pristine white spires, bathed in glorious golden sunlight - a city above the cloud layer, looking down on the ever-changing cloud formations below. From up here, the worst thunderstorms are little but flashes of light amongst the cloud cover, their force directed away from the cities and the tiny two- and four-seater aircraft its inhabitants use for travel. The world below the clouds may be disturbed, but in the tranquil world above, populated by winged people, life is good. Life isn't so good for Azreal Gabrielson. He's one of the Airborn too. With a stretch and a beat of their eight-foot wings his people can flit effortlessly around their cities, living a life of airy ease and beauty ... and in this world Az is an oddity, a painfully isolated exception: Az Gabrielson is a wingless boy. And he's about to be sent on a mission.

Kids that grew up in the small southern Iowa town of Milo truly had a walk in the park during their childhood. There was so much to enjoy during those tender years as Little Leaguers, Boy Scouts, high school athletes, or members of the school band. Hunting and fishing with friends occupied nearly every weekend and filled those treasured moments with unforgettable memories. That all changed when America became involved in the Vietnam War, and the boys of Milo were called to join the military. Soon to be lost would be the innocence of their youth. From 1960 to 1975, nearly two-thirds of the young men from this tightly knit community departed their tranquil town and became soldiers. Many served overseas to include Southeast Asia. Some did not return home. Many came back with visible battle scars and Purple Hearts pinned on their chest. Many returned with hidden wounds, buried deep within their soul that haunted them for years. The Boys of Milo is a true account of the events that impacted these young men on their journey to far-flung parts of the United States and the world during an exceedingly difficult time in American history. Some of their stories are humorous, others are so gripping they defy believability. All, however, are true accounts as now told by old men. Their stories allow those who knew them to remember and for all to understand them. Consider what God has done: Who can straighten what he has made crooked? When times are good, be happy: but when times are bad, consider God has made the one as well as the other. Therefore, a man cannot discover anything about his future. — Ecclesiastes 7:13–15

A war is coming. And it's being taken to the skies. Beneath the cloud cover, in the perpetual half-darkness of the shadows cast by immense sky cities looming overhead, toil a race of people known as Groundlings. They have toiled for hundreds of years, farming, hunting and fishing, and sending a tithe from their labours up, in giant elevators, to the sky cities above. It's a sacrifice to the Ascended Ones - made in the belief that when the Groundlings die and are cremated, they go on to a new, Ascended, life above the clouds. But Ascension is a lie. And while the first rebellion against the Deacons, priests of the Ascended, is over, a new war is about to begin. One which will see Groundlings take to the air in battle against the angel-like Airborn, which will see blood and feathers fly, planes explode, and Airborn cities come crashing to the ground.

Performing Parenthood reveals different enactments of motherhood and fatherhood in twentieth- and twenty-first-century Spain, showing how the family has adapted, or at times failed to do so, within the context of Spain’s changing socioeconomic reality. Through an examination of examples of non-normative parenthood in contemporary Spanish literature and film – including gay literary father figures, subversive physical touch between mother and child, fathers who cross-dress, lesbian maternal community building, non-biological parenting, and disabled bodies – the book argues that current conceptualizations of parenthood should be amplified to reflect the various existing identities and performances of motherhoods and fatherhoods. Connecting canonical works to recent works, the book establishes a unique dialogue that will expand the conversation about the Spanish family beyond the traditional view, bringing visibility to alternative family models. It argues that parental identities exist on a spectrum, enabling many parental figures to disregard heteronormative standards imposed upon the role and allowing them to experience parenthood in meaningful ways. Bringing visibility to literary and cinematic examples of alternative Spanish families, Performing Parenthood provides a glimpse into an evolving society influenced by national and global changes.
