Endowed with exceptional talents as a warrior, diplomat, and ruler--not to mention a temperament that earned him the epithet fornicator immensus in the chronicles of his contemporaries--Vladimir of Russia (960?-1015) began his career at the age of twelve as Prince of Novgorod, rising to be known as "The Red Sun." Volkoff tells Vladimir's story with gusto and humor, describing the years of conquest, violence, polygamy, and pagan ritual as the remarkable prince seized his brother's throne, expanding his rule over the whole of Russia. A shrewd, hospitable, and progressive ruler, he adopted the Christian faith from the Greeks, bringing Christianity to Russia. A "second Constantine," he was later canonized as a saint. This is the first complete biography, based on Russian, Greek, German, Arabic, and Icelandic sources. - Publisher.

The centerpiece of the book is an epic battle between Batman and Two-Face. The story blasts into the future as well, with a final chapter set in the year 2070.

This fictional re-writing of the Hamlet story is set in a time somewhere between the Scandinavian Dark Ages (out of which the tale of Hamlet came), and the Renaissance society of Shakespeare's play. The novel searches past and future, in T.S. Eliot phrase, looking before and after. Beginning at the end of Shakespeare's play, where the Norweigian prince Fortinbras takes over the empty throne of Denmark, its then backtracks to the year of Hamlet's birth, and the great duel fought between his father King Amled and Fortinbras' father Prince Fortenbrasse. in the light of this history, as a new ruler takes over Denmark after Hamlet's death, the conflicts and alliances between ancient Viking chivalry, Renaissance realpolitik and Christian forgiveness are dramatically explored.

Foreign kings and princes were aware that Gormlaith was high queen and whoever married her would be high king. Sitric told her I have promised you in marriage to Sigurd from the Orkneys then I promised you to Brodar, king of Denmark.
