An evocative spiritual memoir which explores the essence of belief and spirituality, set around ancient church in rural Suffolk.~The morning on which John Rogers was due to deliver his 'mardle' (a talk of local interest) to the people of Letheringham, Suffolk, about the community's ancient Priory Church, he suffered an unexpected heart attack. In this beautiful and evocative book, he revisits the months of research leading up to the undelivered mardle and - with the added poignancy of his keener sense of mortality - explores the deeper meanings of life and faith that this simple building and its ghosts from centuries of history gradually reveal to him.

This book is about the ongoing transition of fisheries governance, from top-down command and control towards a more transparent and participatory form. It focuses on the emergence of research practices and advice frameworks that allow co-creation of common knowledge bases for management. Drawing from 8 years of research in GAP, a two-stage 7th framework EU project, the book offers a critical examination of how knowledge practices in fisheries governance are changing. The entry point for this research is a series of practical experiments in the unchartered terrain of collaborative research. To gain insight into the ongoing transition in European fisheries management, GAP initiated and carried out 13 Case Studies in different settings across Europe. In each case study, a team of fishers and marine scientists worked together to identify, plan and implement research projects intended to make a difference. The cases vary. They take on different management issues and shape the collaborations in different ways. The extent to which they succeed in realizing their objectives also differs. They are all contributing important insights into the possibilities of co-creating knowledge for management purposes. The book delves into the individual experiences of each case study as well as the lessons they contribute as a whole. The examination concludes that while research partnerships are not always easy to establish, they are an important step towards better fisheries governance. Without a common knowledge base for fisheries governance, co-created through collaborative research practices, sustainable fisheries will remain out of reach.

Best known for his provocative take on cultural issues in The Intellectuals and the Masses and What Good Are the Arts?, John Carey describes in this warm and funny memoir the events that formed him - an escape from the London blitz to an idyllic rural village, army service in Egypt, an open scholarship to Oxford and an academic career that saw him elected, age 40, to Oxford's oldest English Literature professorship. He frankly portrays the snobberies and rituals of 1950s Oxford, but also his inspiring meetings with writers and poets - Auden, Graves, Larkin, Heaney - and his forty-year stint as a lead book-reviewer for the Sunday Times. This is a book about the joys of reading - in effect, an informal introduction to the great works of English literature. But it is also about war and family, and how an unexpected background can give you the insight and the courage to say the unexpected thing.

This book is the sequel to my first book, "Audio Mastering Secrets" the best selling audio mastering book for 2020 and 2019! If you're into audio engineering, this is a great music production book to add to your home recording studio collection. Packed with step-by-step proven methods. Since 1999, I've worked with over 8,000 clients (that's 6-8 per week) in every genre imaginable. Working with this many clients gave me the rare opportunity to discover what areas most sound engineers are having problems with. Most of the mixes clients submit are pretty good. The sound engineer definitely does not need to read a 400 page book on basic mixing techniques, or take a six week mixing course. They're way beyond that. What they do need is a book that points out the most common mixing errors that most sound engineers make, so they can check their mixes for them. Problems they don't even realize their mixes suffer from. That's what "Song Mixing Secrets" is all about! I Show You How To Quickly Fix These Common Problems - Mix is too crowded, no space or clarity Vocals can't cut through the mix Inconsistent levels from section to section Mix is too bassy, muddy Mix is too bright, tinny, thin Stereo field is weak (your song is really mono) And More!! This book is for someone who has a good understanding of basic mixing procedures. Sometimes as a solution to a problem, I might suggest compressing the lead vocal a bit. But, I don't get into detailed threshold and ratio settings. I assume you already know how to compress a vocal track. I wrote this entire book in simple plain English (layman's terms). I eliminated all the words you never heard of and hi-tech jargon, so anyone at any level can understand and learn from this book. You've invested hundreds, if not thousands, of hours into your music. If you're serious about it, now's the time to make a very small financial investment in this book so your music will sound the very best it can! I wrote this book so you can quickly learn (in a matter of days) the techniques, tips, and secrets that took me over 20 years to learn!
