A Peculiar action for assault came before the Irish Exchequer last week. It was brought by a medical student against the proprietor of a music hall. The plaintiff alleged that because he hissed a disloyal song about John Brown and the widow, meaning Her Majesty and the late John Brown, he was attacked and assaulted, and was thrown out of the music hall by the proprietor. The plaintiff's counsel contended that it was not only his right but his duty as a loyal man to express his disapproval. The defendant protested that he would not allow disloyal songs. He sought to have the case remitted to an inferior tribunal, but the Court refused to remit it, Baron Dowse observing that if the song was of the character alleged by the plaintiff, it was certainly in execrable taste.
