Originally published in the Acadian Reader, a Halifax newspaper, in the early 1820s, the letters earned for their author the distinction of being called "the founder of genuine Canadian humour" by Northrop Frye.

Toronto Trailblazers explores the influence of seven key women who, despite pervasive gender bias, helped advance a modern literary culture for Canada. Publisher Irene Clarke, scholarly editors Eleanor Harman and Francess Halpenny, trade editors Sybil Hutchinson, Claire Pratt, and Anna Porter, and literary agent Bella Pomer made the most of their vocational prospects, first by securing their respective positions and then by refining their professional methods. Individually, each woman asserted her agency by adapting orthodox ways of working within Canadian publishing. Collectively, their overarching approach emerged as a feminist practice. Through their vision and method these trailblazing women disrupted the dominant masculine paradigm and helped transform publishing practice in Canada.

Canadian literature in English presents a wealth of imaginative experience that belies the colonial status sometimes accorded the world?s second-largest country. This revised and expanded edition of Major Canadian Authors provides an entrance into that realm. Stouck?s carefully integrated essays introduce the life and writings of eighteen foremost Canadian authors, including Robertson Davies, Margaret Laurence, Sinclair Ross, and Alice Munro. The second edition adds a new chapter on Margaret Atwood, updates the text, and expands the reference guide to include more than sixty Canadian authors.

This book offers a comprehensive and engaging introduction to major writers, genres and topics in Canadian literature. Contributors pay attention to the social, political and economic developments that have informed literary events. Broad surveys of fiction, drama, and poetry are complemented by chapters on Aboriginal writing, francophone writing, autobiography, literary criticism, writing by women, and the emergence of urban writing in a country traditionally defined by its regions. Also discussed are genres that have a special place in Canadian literature, such as nature-writing, exploration- and travel-writing, and short fiction.

A Bibliography of McClelland and Stewart Ltd. Imprints, 1909-1985 contains bibliographic records of all books and other materials published by McClelland and Stewart publishing company from 1909, when the first books were published, to 1985, when Jack McClelland ceased to be associated with the company. Carl Spadoni and Judith Donnelly have included all manner of books in this compilation: fiction, poetry, drama, biography, history, and other non-fiction, as well as textbooks at all levels. A good portion of the company's books in the pre-World War II period were imported from the United States and England; the compilers have therefore listed not only Canadian books, but also works by non-Canadian writers in Canadian issues.

The widespread opinion is that Northrop Frye’s influence reached its zenith in the 1960s and 1970s, after which point he became obsolete, his work buried in obscurity. This almost universal opinion is summed up in Terry Eagleton’s 1983 rhetorical question, "Who now reads Frye?" In The Reception of Northrop Frye, Robert D. Denham catalogues what has been written about Frye – books, articles, translations, dissertations and theses, and reviews – in order to demonstrate that the attention Frye’s work has received from the beginning has progressed at a geomantic rate. Denham also explores what we can discover once we have a fairly complete record of Frye’s reception in front of us – such as Hayden White’s theory of emplotments applied to historical writing and Byron Almén’s theory of musical narrative. The sheer quantity of what has been written about Frye reveals that the only valid response to Eagleton’s rhetorical question is "a very large and growing number," the growth being not incremental but exponential.
