Excerpt from The Spiritual Teacher Looking down from the serene heights of their sublime abode, the sp1r1ts of the Sixth Circle desire to present to the inhabitants of the earth a revealment of truths and principles which are adapted to the present state of human development. They desire to speak to the world in the tones of kindness, and to express the thoughts which they have gathered in their researches into the mysteries of the Universe. The object of the present Lecture, which will be exceedingly brief, is to unfold an analysis of the designs which spirits have in view in their intercourse with the children of men. It should be understood that these de signs do not comprehend the selfish gratification of any desire on their part, which has not a connection with the interest and welfare of those whom they address. The spirits have no low ambition to gratify in the presentation of heavenly truths they have no selfish motives by which it is possible for them to be governed in the labor of human enlightenment, and they have no power to stoop from the height of their sublime W1sdom, to administer to the sen sual passions and tendencies of the people. Therefore they will speak of the realities which need to be revealed, for a purpose which is high and holy as their Own blissful state. At the Feet of the Master was the first book published by Jiddu Krishnamurti. Written when he was 14 under the name "Alcyone" and published in 1910, it has been translated into 40 languages. There has been some debate over whether the author was Krishnamurti or his mentor C.W. Leadbeater. Krishnamurti never said that he wrote the work, and in the foreword he says: "These are not my own words but of the Master who taught me." He was referring to Leadbeater's claim that the Master Kuthumi was releasing the instruction to the young boy during the night while he was asleep. The book is considered a theosophical classic.

Excerpt from The Past, Present and Future of the Society of Friends In a measure of that love which would gather all from their outward wanderings in search of the living among the dead, to the inward life and saving power of Truth, I would affectionately call our attention to that living way wherein our worthy forefathers were led to blessedness and peace, as well as to some of the causes which have operated in producing our lapsed condition, as a religious people professing, above all others, a quiet waiting, and humble dependence upon the enlivening, enlightening power of divine grace; which, it is testified, hath appeared to all men, as their in* ward, spiritual teacher, monitor, and guide. It was their faithfulness to this essential duty of humble, dependent waiting upon God, that Christ his dear Son might be made unto them wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption, that made our worthy forefathers that mighty power for good, in turning men from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, which characterized them, as they truly were, the friends of truth; for they were united in the one faith, which works by love to the purifying of the heart, unto, and in co-operation with, the great and holy Head of the living church, who wrought m and through them, both to will and to do of his own good pleasure.
