After a brief interlude following the Cold War, nuclear weapons have regained their prominent place in world affairs. Yet our current nuclear age will not be a replay of the Cold War. New technologies, changing political contexts and the death of old arms-control agreements mean that today's nuclear strategists have to navigate unchartered waters filled with fresh perils. Unfortunately, the consequences of failure in the nuclear world can be catastrophic. The immediate imperative today is to lower the possibility of nuclear weapons use during a crisis or conflict involving nuclear powers. While deliberate or pre-emptive nuclear use is less likely, the rising danger of our time is that nuclear weapons will be employed due to some combination of miscommunication, misjudgment, misperception and sheer accident. The Sheathed Sword: From Nuclear Brink to No First Use is a collection of essays by leading scholars and practitioners on the role of nuclear weapons in global security. The contributors examine how individual states view nuclear weapons, the devastating effects of nuclear war on the world's climate and the issues around nuclear no first use. They also debate the feasibility and desirability of a global no-first-use (GNFU) agreement.

Winning at competitive games requires a results-oriented mindset that many players are simply not willing to adopt. This book walks players through the entire process: how to choose a game and learn basic proficiency, how to break through the mental barriers that hold most players back, and how to handle the issues that top players face. It also includes a complete analysis of Sun Tzu's book The Art of War and its applications to games of today. These foundational concepts apply to virtually all competitive games, and even have some application to "real life." Trade paperback. 142 pages.

While deliberate or pre-emptive nuclear use is less likely, the rising danger of our time is that nuclear weapons will be employed due to some combination of miscommunication, misjudgment, misperception and sheer accident. We argue that if all nuclear weapons powers were to adopt no-first-use policies, these dangers would become much more manageable. How can such a global agreement on no-first-use be reached? After all, states often have very different ideas about how they can deter each other. Leading scholars and practitioners also have different perceptions about the implications of new technologies on nuclear weapons, on whether coercion works, and where the greatest sources of danger lie. Section I looks at the role of nuclear weapons in global security Section II examines the literature on nuclear coercion and consider the devastating effects of a limited nuclear war on the world's climate. Section III looks at the issues around no first use. Section IV is a series of studies of how individual states view nuclear weapons and the desirability of a GNFU agreement.

What would you do when duty and desire collide? Long ago, Kenzie McPhee was in love. She was to marry Arran, the eldest son of the McCaskills, and bring peace to their clans forevermore. Only fate had other ideas... Instead of peace, the two clans fell into a bloody feud. At the height of the conflict, Kenzie was spirited away to begin a new life far to the south, and after many years, the scars of her childhood faded into distant memory. Until a letter arrives, containing an offer of peace between their families; a proposition that can only be sealed by marrying the now Laird Arran McCaskill... the very man she'd spent a lifetime trying to forget. A second chance at love, or an opening of old wounds? Blaine McCaskill, brother to the Laird, has grown into a respected soldier, wrapped in his precious duty. It's a far cry from his youth, where he juggled the demands of a brutal father with a secret, unrequited love for Kenzie McPhee. So now, when he is ordered by the Laird to escort Kenzie home for the wedding, Blaine must enter a different type of battlefield, where the only enemy is himself - and the stakes are higher than he's ever known - to ensure the fragile peace is preserved. But with the backdrop of a greater war threatening to engulf the entire Highlands, will Blaine and Kenzie do their duty, or will a forbidden desire risk more than they could possibly imagine? A Promise to Be Kept is a HEA historical romance of 90,000 words, set in the Scottish Highlands. It's an exploration of love set amidst war, hope, and circumstance.
