Life on Earth is not what they remember… The dome over Georgina’s Town cracks and begins to leak, which leads Ptolemy Jovan Lane, peacekeeper of the town, and his assistant, Ninety-Nine, to the cause of the leak. The body they find sends them on an emotion-ladened hunt for the real killer. Destination: Earth – where things are distressingly not the way either of them remembers. The troubling truths they uncover threaten more than just Earth, forcing Jovan to face a personal choice that could save everyone…or damn them forever. The Return of the Peacemaker is the fifth and final story in the Ptolemy Lane space opera science fiction series by award-winning SF author Cameron Cooper. The Ptolemy Lane Tales: 1.0: The Body in the Zero Gee Brothel 2.0: The Captain Who Broke the Rules 3.0: The Maker of Widowmakers’ Arm 4.0: The Ancient Girl in the Autopod 5.0: The Return of the Peacemaker Space Opera/SF Crime Novel __ Praise for the Ptolemy Lane Tales: Hard-boiled detective meets Mos Eisley cantina I was pleasantly surprised by the depth of the world building. A lot of potential for rich, nuanced story telling in this world. I look forward to seeing more of Ptolemy Lane and others from his world! I felt like I was in a black and white sci-fi avant-garde movie. Humphrey Bogart is in the background somewhere, smoking a Camel cigarette, or maybe a future Sherlock Holmes. I have truly enjoyed Cameron's other books, but this one is so very different from all the rest. Ptolemy Lane is one of the most unique characters I've seen in awhile! Very interesting, beautifully written, complex story. Very interesting and imaginative, it's like Cameron has already been there and lived that! Original and entertaining. Snappy action with unpredictable characters in a captivating world! I love this series and can’t wait for the next installment Lane is utterly complex and leaves the reader wanting more. I actually felt bad for how Ptolemy Lane started his day This is such a clever story! A complex world which is presented with mystery , intrigue and entertainment I find Ninety-Nine a most interesting character Cameron’s short stories were awesome in themselves but a mind like Jovan’s has got to have an expanded adventure Very cleverly written mystery - it is all in the detail with this one While I have loved all the short stories, this one tops them all. Cameron is a great writer who keeps his readers captivated with his interesting plots and twists and turns throughout the series. Very well written and edited book with well developed characters and continuing drama I’m already excited about the next part of this series A wonderful story of who done it, told as only Cameron Cooper can. A clever and intriguing plot keeps you turning page after page I have loved all of the stories and this one just tops them all __ Cameron Cooper is the author of the Imperial Hammer space opera series, among others, and is the pen name used by best selling author Tracy Cooper-Posey. A twelve-year-old Iroquois boy searches for peace in this historical novel based on the creation of the Iroquois Confederacy. Twelve-year-old Okwaho's life has suddenly changed. While he and his best friend are out hunting, his friend is kidnapped by men from a neighboring tribal nation, and Okwaho barely escapes. Everyone in his village fears more raids and killings: The Five Nations of the Iroquois have been at war with one another for far too long, and no one can remember what it was like to live in peace. Okwaho is so angry that he wants to seek revenge for his friend, but before he can retaliate, a visitor with a message of peace comes to him in the woods. The Peacemaker shares his lesson tales—stories that make Okwaho believe that this man can convince the leaders of the five fighting nations to set down their weapons. So many others agree with him. In the twentieth century, great leaders played vital roles in making the world a fairer and more peaceful place. How did they do it? What lessons can be drawn for the twenty-first-century global agenda? Those questions are at the heart of The Peacemakers, a kind of global edition of John F. Kennedy’s Profiles in Courage. Writing at a time when peace seems elusive and conflict endemic, when tensions are running high among the major powers, when history has come roaring back, when democracy and human rights are yet again under siege, when climate change is moving from future to present tense, and when transformational statesmanship is so needed, Bruce W. Jentleson shows how twentieth-century leaders of a variety of types—national, international institutional, sociopolitical, nongovernmental—rewrote the zero-sum scripts they were handed and successfully made breakthroughs on issues long thought intractable. The stories are fascinating: Henry Kissinger, Zhou Enlai, and the U.S.-China opening; Mikhail Gorbachev and the end of the Cold War; Dag Hammarskjöld’s exceptional effectiveness as United Nations secretary-general; Nelson Mandela and South African reconciliation; Yitzhak Rabin seeking Arab-Israeli peace; Mahatma Gandhi as exemplar of anticolonialism and an apostle of nonviolence; Lech Walesa and ending Soviet bloc communism; Gro Harlem Brundtland and fostering global sustainability; and a number of others. While also taking into account other actors and factors, Jentleson tells us who each leader was as an individual, why they made the choices they did, how they pursued their goals, and what they were (and weren’t) able to achieve. And not just fascinating, but also instructive. Jentleson draws out lessons across the twenty-first-century global agenda, making clear how difficult peacemaking is, while powerfully demonstrating that it has been possible—and urgently stressing how necessary it is today. An ambitious book for ambitious people, The Peacemakers seeks to contribute to motivating and shaping the breakthroughs on which our future so greatly depends.

Born of Mohawk and Cayuga descent, musical icon Robbie Robertson learned the story of Hiawatha and his spiritual guide, the Peacemaker, as part of the Iroquois oral tradition. Now he shares the same gift of storytelling with a new generation. Hiawatha was a strong and articulate Mohawk who was chosen to translate the Peacemaker’s message of unity for the five warring Iroquois nations during the 14th century. This message not only succeeded in uniting the tribes but also forever changed how the Iroquois governed themselves—a blueprint for democracy that would later inspire the authors of the U.S. Constitution. Caldecott Honor–winning illustrator David Shannon brings the journey of Hiawatha and the Peacemaker to life with arresting oil paintings. Together, the team of Robertson and Shannon has crafted a new children’s classic that will both educate and inspire readers of all ages. Includes a CD featuring an original song written and performed by Robbie Robertson.

The fifteenth novel in Cherryh’s Foreigner space opera series, a groundbreaking tale of first contact and its consequences… Civil war on the world of the atevi is finally over. And Cajeiri, son and heir of Tabini-aiji, atevi leader of the dominant Western Association, is about to celebrate his fortunate ninth birthday. Bren Cameron, brilliant human diplomat allied with Tabini, has managed to arrange a visit for Cajeiri’s three special associates from the starship Phoenix—ordinary human children who developed a bond with Cajeiri during his two years in space. After a year of political upheaval, this is a happy event: the heir is safe, the aiji is back in power, and a massive celebration is planned in the capital. The whole world is watching. But Bren Cameron has received evidence that security has been severely compromised from the aiji’s high office on downward. The powerful Assassins’ Guild—which provides the judicial system, law enforcement, and personal protection in atevi society—is in the hands of a man who would like to turn the entire world back two centuries. Bren now knows the details of a decades-old plot that’s been threaded through Guild actions since before his arrival on the continent. The enemy’s best chance is to strike now, at the public celebration that is much too important and far too advanced to cancel. Bren and his associates have no choice. If they don’t make the first move, the other side will. And the lives of the heir, his innocent human guests, and the entire ruling family are at stake. The long-running Foreigner series can also be enjoyed by more casual genre readers in sub-trilogy installments. Peacemaker is the 15th Foreigner novel, and the 3rd book in the fifth subtrilogy.

This book is the behind-closed-doors tale of how American diplomat Philip Habib worked out a peaceful end to the 1982 Israeli siege of Beirut. Only now can this remarkable story be told. For a generation, it has remained secret, locked away in the classified records and in the participants' memories. To piece it together, John Boykin dug through thousands of pages of documents that he got declassified and conducted over 150 hours of interviews. Israeli defense minister Ariel Sharon intended his invasion of Lebanon to be the masterstroke that would bring peace to the Middle East for decades. Instead, it defeated its own purposes, soiled Israel's reputation, and came to be widely considered Israel's Vietnam. This is a story of conflict between allies: on the national scale, between the US and Israel during some of the darkest days of their relations; on the personal scale, between Philip Habib and Ariel Sharon. But at heart it is the story of an extraordinary man wrestling with an extraordinary crisis. His story has never before been told.--Book jacket.
