The Report on Unidentified Flying Objects is a book by Edward J. Ruppelt which described the study of UFOs by United States Air Force from 1947 to 1955. Ruppelt was a United States Air Force officer best known for his involvement in Project Blue Book, a formal governmental study of unidentified flying objects. Because Ruppelt was the central axis of the government's investigation the book provides a unique insider look at how the government's efforts functioned.

Project Blue Book was a U.S. government investigation of Unidentified Flying Objects - UFOs. One of the men working on the project was decorated U.S. Air Force officer Edward Ruppelt, and this book contains the findings. The ideas surrounding UFOs were stoked by popular imagination; flying saucers, alien visitation or even abduction, and strange phenomena such as lights or aircraft moving rapidly in the sky. Following World War II, the idea that aliens were regularly appearing in spacecraft, coupled with abundant reports of unexplained objects in the sky, prompted a series of investigations by governments. Project Blue Book was among the most notable, led by Josef Allen Hynek and staffed by officers such as Edward Ruppelt - both of whom were open-minded when identifying these unusual phenomena. Ruppelt's explanations are thorough, explaining what he and his team uncovered in detail over the course of 1952-1954. Finding nothing conclusive in support of UFOs as alien spacecraft, he quotes fellow officer Andy Flues: "Even taking into consideration the highly qualified backgrounds of some of the people who made sightings, there was not one single case which, upon the closest analysis, could not be logically explained in terms of some common object or phenomenon."

The Report on Unidentified Flying Objects is Edward J. Ruppelt's memoir of his role in the seminal US Air Force UFO study projects: Projects Sign, Grudge and Blue Book. According to this account, he coined the acronym 'UFO' and put many of the official procedures for reporting and studying UFOs in place. An enjoyable read, The Report on Unidentified Flying Objects captures the feel of working for the mid-20th century US military. Ruppelt describes the changing attitudes of the USAF about UFOs during the early 1950s: wobbling between denial, ridicule, paranoia, and genuine inquiry. A key point of The Report on Unidentified Flying Objects is identifying the military's role. Ruppelt makes a strong case that UFOs weren't a top secret weapons system; the reports were not disinformation by intelligence agencies; nor was there a concerted effort to cover up UFOs by the US government. Ruppelt gives unique details on some of the most impressive sightings on his watch. These were largely witnessed by highly trained observers such as radar operators, fighter and commercial pilots, astronomers, and other scientists, often during the course of their official duties. The Air Force group that Ruppelt worked for had access to data on top secret balloon launches and test flights, so they were able to sort out which reports could be explained in this way. He consulted with a wide range of scientific specialists, many of whom were in favor of the extraterrestrial hypothesis, and some who were skeptics. Fully a quarter of the reports were still unexplained after this rigorous filtering. "The Report on Unidentified Flying Objects" is a must read for anyone interested in UFOs.

Flying Saucers Over the White House is the story of Captain Edward J. Ruppelt, a US Air Force officer who researched UFO sightings in the 1950s and made a concentrated effort to convince the United States Air Force that UFOs exist. Ruppelt, who coined the term 'UFO', headed "Project Blue Book," an assignment designed by the United States government to investigate and report on the existence of unidentified flying objects and their link to extraterrestrial beings. Ruppelt dissected the evidence, separating chance sightings of ordinary objects from true UFO sightings. He eventually wrote The Report on Unidentified Flying Objects, summarizing his findings. In Flying Saucers Over the White House, Bennett examines the life of this "founding father" of ufology, analyzing the evidence and the U.S. government's reporting of this phenomenon for a new generation of readers. COLIN BENNETT has written several books, including The Entertainment Bomb, *Looking for Orthon*, and Politics of the Imagination, which won the Anomalist Award for Best Biography in 2002. After leaving school to become a professional musician, Bennett returned to college to study English at Balliol College at the University of Oxford. He wrote several plays that were performed in London before reinventing himself as an electronics engineer and founding a consulting agency. Bennett currently resides in London where he continues to write and discover new interests.

The ultimate guide to Project Blue Book by one of the lead astronomers for the US Air Force program to investigate UFO sightings. Originally released in 1977, this new edition by the world's foremost authority on UFOs distills 12,000 sightings and 140,000 pages of Project Blue Book evidence into a coherent explanation. A US Air Force - sponsored UFO-basher for years, Hynek had completely changed his tune by the late 1960s. Whether you believe in little green men or an official government cover-up policy, The Hynek UFO Report is required reading. Have UFOs really been reported by every nation across the globe? Can all the eyewitness reports simply be fantasy? Are we victims of mass hallucination or just plain lies? Have close encounters actually occurred? Is the government concealing deep secrets at a hidden location? The Hynek UFO Report is rational, logical, and realistic. It is for anyone interested in UFOs, the possibility of extraterrestrial life, and the role of the US government in hiding the truth from the public.
