Excerpt from The Publications Of The Pipe Roll Society, 1893, Vol. 16 RE present volume, Vol. XVI., contains the Pipe Roll for 17 Henry II., and is issued to subscribers as the equivalent for the subscription for the year 1892-3. The next volume will consist of a number of the earliest feet of fines in the Public Record Office, a few Of which belong to the reign of Henry II., and the remainder to that of Richard I. The Council regret to observe that some Members of the Society have objected to the publication of any documents but Pipe Rolls. The Council, however, wish to call attention to the fact that the title of the Society has always been The Pipe Roll Society, for the Publication of the Great Rolls of the Exchequer, commonly called the Pipe Rolls, and other documents prior to the year a.d. And they are of Opinion that the majority of the subscribers prefer to have an Occasional volume of documents of another class to relieve what some feel to be the monotony of the series of Pipe Rolls. It is hoped that Vol. XVII. Will be issued in the summer of 1894, and thus the state of arrears in which the publications have been for some time, as mentioned in previous reports, will be finally made up.
