Slaves of Dr. Gray Sills of Castalia, Nash County, they lived in Nash, Franklin, and Warren Counties after they became free. Dr. Gray Sills (1804-1891) is a descendant of David Sills, Jr. (1774-1833) who came to North Carolina from Virginia in 1791. The Sillses are said to be descendants from Lord James and Millie Wessel Sills of Scotland.
