A respectable marriage reveals private passions and dangerous secrets in this “sensual and intriguing” Victorian romance (Publishers Weekly). Lucy Ashton had long ago given up her quest for true love. Instead, she plays the expected role of a society lady: flirting, dancing, and dabbling in the new fashion of spiritualism. She even marries when—and who—she’s supposed to. If the stuffy Duke of Sussex cannot spark the passion she craves, he can at least give her a family and a home of her own. But when her polite marriage reveals a caring and sensual man, Lucy begins to wonder if she can indeed have it all. As a member of a secretive organization, Lord Sussex is not the man London society has come to admire. Meanwhile, Lucy harbors a few troublesome ghosts of her own. Thus, when a blackmail scheme turns to threats of danger, the newfound peace of the Sussex marriage is cast upon the rocks. Passion has a price, Lucy learns. And not all ghosts stay buried.

From 1807 until 1814, armies from Napoleon's empire fought the allied powers of Spain, Britain and Portugal for control of the Iberian Peninsula. The Penisular Wars or Guerra de la Independencia ("War of Independence") contributed considerably to Napoleon's eventual downfall; but until 1813 the conflict in Spain and Portugal, though costly, exercised only an indirect effect upon the progress of French affairs in central and eastern Europe. From the drama of this brutal war of liberation, author C.S. Forester tells the story of a gun -- a remarkable cannon, an immense eighteen-pounder, used by local townspeople in the rebellion against the French until they are forced to hide it beneath a pile of stone to prevent its capture. Years later, a group of guerrilleros learn about its location and seize it for their cause. The colossal gun, though highly valued, creates colossal challenges to those responsible for it's transportation and defense. Over time the great gun falls under the control of a series of guerrilla leaders; each achieves strong leadership through his connection to the gun, and each is eventually captured and executed or killed in battle until the gun finally comes under the control of the 18-year-old Jorge, who emerges as an untrained but naturally gifted leader and tactician. The exploits of the Spanish irregulars under Jorge eventually lead to the diversion of a large body of French troops from their fight against the Peninsular allies and thus help win the war.

College football in the South, it has been said, is like a religion, and nowhere is the passion and dedication more evident than at the twelve universities that make up the Southeastern Conference. The SEC is one of the most storied associations in all of collegiate sports. Its intense rivalries, historic programs, iconic coaches, and championship traditions are felt every autumn, from Gainesville to Little Rock, Baton Rouge to Lexington. The competition among the schools is as fervent as ever, fomenting rivalries within states (Alabama vs. Auburn and Mississippi State vs. Ole Miss) and across borders (Florida vs. Georgia and LSU vs. Arkansas). Many legends of the game have graced the SEC gridiron, including Fran Tarkenton, Joe Namath, Reggie White, Herschel Walker, Bo Jackson, Emmitt Smith, and Peyton, Archie, and Eli Manning---to name just a few. Celebrating three-quarters of a century of incomparable football, this lavishly illustrated book celebrates the stars, heroes, characters, and games that have made the SEC a force beyond reckoning. The book explores the players and the coaches, the teams and the traditions, and the great games and individual performances that have defined each decade of SEC football. Vintage and modern photography bring the world of the Southeastern Conference, past and present, brilliantly to life, and complete this timely tribute to an exceptional football legacy.

This quick but insightful read tackles the growing modern-day problem of dissatisfaction in the workplace. What makes this problem modernly unique is that it is no longer limited to those who have failed to pursue their passion, in fact, quite the opposite. That is because society has progressively cornered passion into an end-all be-all solution to happiness. Phrases such as, "follow your passion and you will never work a day in your life," have created the notion that our passions alone hold the key to a consistently satisfying career. While there is no arguing that our passion plays an important role in enjoying our work, it is our overreliance of its abilities that has become our Achilles' heel to dissatisfaction. In Pride Over Passion, you will learn the five simple, yet effective, rules that Drew Ingle has meticulously crafted to address this problem. These rules, backed by reputable studies and in-depth research on the subject, will help you overcome even the most unfavorable and unsatisfying circumstances of your career.

Celtic Football Club’s story is laced with drama and excitement, featuring a host of colourful individuals and a social history matched by few, if any, football clubs. In Celtic: Pride and Passion, Lisbon Lion Jim Craig and Pat Woods, a historian of the club, take a fresh look at several lesser-known episodes in Celtic’s history, including: the fascinating link between Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show and a dramatic Ne’erday match at Celtic Park; the unforgettable night the ‘playboy of the Eastern world’ lit up Parkhead with a performance that helped to sow the seeds for a revolution at the club; the remarkable story of a trophy that was such a source of friction that the club kept it locked in a safe; and the pivotal year in which the rivalry between Celtic and Rangers took on a darker hue. They also recount the revealing story, told through the eyes of the European press, of how Celtic captivated a continent in the annus mirabilis of 1967. Celtic: Pride and Passion is a book that no discerning fan of Celtic Football Club will want to be without.
