The Pedagogic Mission offers a focused pedagogic exegesis of the philosophies of Heraclitus, Parmenides, Socrates and Plato. Encrypted in their philosophical practices is a pedagogical mission which structures their manner of engagement. The linguistic style, epistemological assumptions, and metaphysical views are shown to be integral to the neophytes’ pedagogical experience involving the acquisition of rational skills, an enhanced conceptual framework of understanding, and transformative effect on the subject.

Recent decades have seen an ever-increasing number of Western Christians going abroad as English teachers. Many of these teachers are going to countries that are not very receptive to other forms of Western Christian mission. Some Western Christians view English teaching primarily as a means to gain access to "closed" countries for the purpose of evangelistic outreach. Other Western Christians see it mainly as a form of social service. Snow’s well-thought-out details of how to bear witness, engage in ministry, serve the poor, contribute to peace, and build bridges of understanding between churches clearly show the special role of Christian mission that Christian English teachers can have.

Excerpt from The Pedagogy of Missions As to the origin of religion many different views have been and are still held. Hume thought that hope and fear lay at its basis. Man was afraid of natural forces, and that caused him to predicate gods back of them. Efforts were then made to secure the good-will of these deities. Edward B. Tylor thought that animism was at the beginning of all religions, attributing to all objects a life similar to that which man was conscious of having within himself. He thought that all forms of culture and worship could be derived from this primitive religion. Herbert Spencer traces religion to ancestor worship. The deities of primitive men are the spirits of their ancestors, which after death inhabit trees, stones and other objects. This presses the origin back of the animism of Tyler and the fear and hope origin of Hume. But the real source of religion is farther back yet and deeper in the scul of man. Animism and ancestor worship belong to a later stratum of human history. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Using an innovative research strategy including empirical, interpretive, and narrative strands, Rod Evans reorients studies of educational administration that have been dominated by organizational theory originating in the world of industry and commerce. Building on a foundation of pedagogical and phenomenological inquiry, he examines administrators’ concrete, lived experience, or “lifeworld practice.” In reconstituting educational administration as pedagogical practice, Evans draws conclusions with profound implications for schools and administrators of every stripe.

How can education survive in a post-truth era full of alternative facts and a reality-TV star armed with nuclear codes and a Twitter account? We must recognize that teaching is political. Schools need to help students counter the social erosion of trust in knowledge. Preserving that trust, we have seen, can help preserve democracy.Trust, like politics, involves people. In their classes, people learn to see themselves as members of communities and also to engage the world around them. Schools have a responsibility to support students as they learn. With the rise of anger-fueled nationalism around the world, it is clear that caring for others has never been so vital. It is also clear that technology and capitalism will not solve education's problems. Social media companies promise connection but create echo chambers and conspiracy-mongering. Ed-tech companies promise insights and solutions while delivering surveillance and suspicion. Education must connect the personal to the technological-it can no longer afford to work offline. All teaching is necessarily hybrid.Pedagogy, people, and politics influence each other, and educators of all stripes have an opportunity-a responsibility-to build human connections with ethical technology.Gathering the voices of over two dozen progressive educators, this volume combines perspectives from across academia and around the globe. The authors in this book use critical digital pedagogy as a guide for navigating today's turbulent global political climate. Timely and accessible, Hybrid Teaching challenges higher education faculty and administrators to consider the political implications-and the political power-of teaching.
