Leon Trotsky, one of the leaders of the Bolshevik Revolution and the head of The Fourth International, was exiled from Russia in the late 1920's by Joseph Stalin and later assassinated for opposing Stalin's non-aggression pact with Adolph Hitler. In this dark and riveting thriller, John Porterfield Davidson has re-envisioned the life and mission of Ramón Mercader, the Spanish nationalist enlisted to murder the great intellectual and who obediently and reluctantly completed the task after a great deal of self-doubt and soul-searching regret. Ramón's great internal conflict is ignited by an unexpected and unwanted passion that develops for a left-leaning Jewish woman named Sylvia whom he is ordered to seduce as a means of getting at Trotsky but ends up being the one enthralled by the woman's intelligence and gentle trusting nature. This finer feeling creates a conflict between Ramón and his mother, part of a satellite group controlled by Stalin who has conscripted her son to murder Trotsky. We follow the protagonist through Spain, France and Belgium and finally to Mexico where he comes into contact with Frieda Kahlo who along with Diego Rivera have offered Trotsky and his wife refuge in one of their gated homes. With a deft command of mood and atmosphere, John Davidson has woven a narrative that will strongly appeal to all readers of noir Word War II novels.

"On an Earth that is not our own, Victoria never ascended the throne ... It is a time of gaslamps and regularly scheduled airship flights, of trams and steam-driven clockwork with countless smoke-belching stacks. London, the capitol of the Empire of the Lion, is a filthy, crowded, fast-growing city where a series of shocking murders threatens the throne itself. Energetic young inventor Jack Straker believes he has created a weapon to defend the Crown: a reanimated, clockwork-enhanced corpse he can control. He introduces 'the Iron Assassin' to the highly placed Lords who will decide if Straker's invention becomes a weapon of the Lion--or something to be destroyed"--

“An enthralling conclusion to this superb trilogy, displaying an exceptional combination of originality, magic, adventure, character, and drama.”—Kirkus Reviews (starred review) King Shrewd is dead at the hands of his son Regal. As is Fitz—or so his enemies and friends believe. But with the help of his allies and his beast magic, he emerges from the grave, deeply scarred in body and soul. The kingdom also teeters toward ruin: Regal has plundered and abandoned the capital, while the rightful heir, Prince Verity, is lost to his mad quest—perhaps to death. Only Verity’s return—or the heir his princess carries—can save the Six Duchies. But Fitz will not wait. Driven by loss and bitter memories, he undertakes a quest: to kill Regal. The journey casts him into deep waters, as he discovers wild currents of magic within him—currents that will either drown him or make him something more than he was. Praise for Robin Hobb and Assassin’s Quest “Fantasy as it ought to be written . . . Robin Hobb’s books are diamonds in a sea of zircons.”—George R. R. Martin “Superbly written, wholly satisfying, unforgettable: better than any fantasy trilogy in print—including mine!”—Melanie Rawn

The men travel across the desert to Jerusalem on the belief that their journey is a simple one, to follow a star-prophesy and worship a new king. Not long after, they meet the tyrannical King Herod who dispenses a warped idea of mercy to his subjects on a blood-soaked throne room floor. The military commander and captain of the elite guards Severo, serves as Herod's right hand and will stop at nothing in his quest for position and wealth--even if it means leading a slaughter of all the first born children in the region to appease his master.
