For more than thirty years, the comic-book series Nexus has showcased the artistry of Steve "The Dude" Rude, one of the industry's most passionate and highly regarded artists. Rude's continuing dedication to improving his craft through daily practice and the study of his heroes--Jack Kirby, Alex Raymond and Hal Foster and such illustration masters as Andrew Loomis and John Gannam--have infused his art with a combination of grace, power and finely crafted storytelling. The Nexus Chronicles focuses on Rude's role as artist and co-creator of this award-winning series. Three dedicated years have gone into assembling the original art for eight of The Dude's favorite creations, including Nexus: Wages of Sin #1 and Next Nexus #1, both of which are shown with their pencil and finished inked forms facing one another to highlight the process. Nexus #50 and the rarely seen eight-page "All in Sundra" are reproduced from their inked originals. Also featured is the previously unpublished Nexus #99 in pencil form and the fully painted Sundra story "When She Was Young," and more. Each issue has been meticulously scanned directly from The Dude's personal archives. Every chapter opens with a spotlight on the Rude's painted covers and supplemental drawings taken from his sketchbooks. These openings highlight concept drawings, preparatory thumbnails and cover-color compositions, following an introduction by the artist. An expanded interview offers insight into his craft, and photographs by Greg Preston show Rude working in his studio. The Nexus Chronicles reproduces Steve Rude's finest comics like never before, allowing fans and students alike to study the nuances of his line art.

When it feels like everything in the world is stacked against you, it's easy to claim that it's the devil's doing. But what if that were true? For a teenager like Nexus, having to deal with school, supernatural traits, and the hustle and bustle of 31st century living, life is hard enough. But when misfortune seems to meet him at every turn, it's no wonder he places the blame all on some devil. Especially when that devil appears before him. Things take a turn for the worse when his closest friend, Darius, disappears. It's at that moment, he realizes that this is bigger than him. Something has to be done. Something has to change. Desperate to find a way to bring his friend back, he reluctantly teams up with his classmates, Noah, Lynn, and Kai. All of them share a bond with Darius, and all of them are just as concerned. At the dawn of the earth, a race of beings-masters of the universe-walked the planet. Now a portal opens to their long-lost world. After thousands of years, Araqiel the Watcher has finally spotted the culmination of his quest-three champions not of his world, but perhaps its only hope. But will they be willing to step into this most dangerous of games and fulfill their unique destinies? Laura, Jon, and Sampson, three college students, have heard the legends about the bene elohim, who have invoked fear and awe since the beginning of time. Both despised and revered, they taught humankind about mysteries otherwise unknown. Then, abruptly, they vanished, along with the other six races-the elves, dwarves, giants, centaurs, people of the sea, and fairies. But to Laura, Jon, and Sampson, the bene elohim are nothing more than myths...until they encounter the mysterious Araqiel, discover The Books of El, and are plunged into the world these ancient beings once ruled with absolute power. Their mission? To journey to the land, to believe, to act in the land's behalf, and to forge a path, using their honed skills as a team to do what seems impossible. The stakes are high-not only their own lives, but the survival of two worlds. And forces not of their world are conspiring to make this the deadliest game of all.
