At the end of this seminar paper, the following questions should be answered: Has nobody ever written a detective story before or are there preforms that are related to detective stories? Is Edgar Allan Poe really the inventor of detective fiction? Edgar Allan Poe was one of the most famous American authors, who is especially famous for his over seventy short stories. Volume 2 of Edgar Allan Poe's Works: In company with my friend C. Auguste Dupin, I was enjoying the twin indulgence of meditation and a meerschaum in his little back library, or book-closet, au troisiême, No. 33, Rue Dunôt, Faubourg St. Germain, just after dark one blustery evening in the fall of 18-. We had maintained a profound quiet for at least an hour, while each appeared earnestly and completely absorbed with the curling eddies of smoke that burdened the atmosphere of the chamber to any casual spectator. However, I was mentally contemplating certain things that had come up in conversation between us earlier in the evening; I'm referring to the Rue Morgue affair and the mystery surrounding Marie Rogêt's murder. When the door to our flat was flung open and our old acquaintance, Monsieur G-, the Prefect of the Parisian police, was admitted, I took it as a coincidence. We greeted him warmly, for the man had about as much of the entertaining as the despicable about him, and we hadn't seen him in years. This is a great story that you should spend some time reading.
