One of the most spectacular floods in prehistoric times, besides the Genesis Flood, was the great Lake Missoula flood, which left its mark in the Channeled Scabland of the Pacific Northwest in the United States. However, the evidence, which is now considered to be overwhelming and irrefutable, was the subject of intense controversy for 40 years before being accepted. In this book Michael Oard discusses not only the abundant evidence, which at the time was considered to be too biblical, but also the circumstances surrounding the controversy. Given such prejudices, it is not expected that mainstream geologists will ever see evidence for the largest flood of all time the Genesis Flood. Once the concept of a Lake Missoula flood was accepted, geologists soon saw what they thought was evidence for anywhere from 40 to 100 floods at the peak of the last ice age. However, Oard shows that the evidence is strong that there was only one major flood, with possibly a few minor floods. A chapter is dedicated to other ice age floods, including John Shaws paradigm-busting subglacial flood hypotheses. Evidence for the Genesis Flood is also presented, consisting generally of new information from the field of geomorphology. Another chapter is devoted to a defense of the short time scale of Scripture. And finally, Oard demonstrates that the Lake Missoula flood also provides analogs for the catastrophic formation of mysterious geomorphological features, such as water and wind gaps.

Glacial Lake Missoula and Its Humongous Floods tells the gripping tale of a huge Ice Age lake that drained suddenly--not just once but repeatedly--and reshaped the landscape of the Northwest. The narrative follows the path of the floodwaters as they raged from western Montana across the Idaho Panhandle, then scoured through eastern Washington and down the Columbia Gorge to the Pacific Ocean.

"This book by Mike Oard about the Retreating Stage of Noah's flood contains powerful evidence that the catastrophe really happened, and as a consequence, that the Bible is accurate and reliable. The Retreating Stage of the Flood, the seven-month period when the waters of the Flood retreated from the continents into the ocean basins, is the last global geological process to significantly impact our earth. And the mark it left on the landscape is still clearly visible"--Foreword.

How the mystery of the Bible's greatest story shaped geology: a MacArthur Fellow presents a surprising perspective on Noah's Flood. In Tibet, geologist David R. Montgomery heard a local story about a great flood that bore a striking similarity to Noah’s Flood. Intrigued, Montgomery began investigating the world’s flood stories and—drawing from historic works by theologians, natural philosophers, and scientists—discovered the counterintuitive role Noah’s Flood played in the development of both geology and creationism. Steno, the grandfather of geology, even invoked the Flood in laying geology’s founding principles based on his observations of northern Italian landscapes. Centuries later, the founders of modern creationism based their irrational view of a global flood on a perceptive critique of geology. With an explorer’s eye and a refreshing approach to both faith and science, Montgomery takes readers on a journey across landscapes and cultures. In the process we discover the illusive nature of truth, whether viewed through the lens of science or religion, and how it changed through history and continues changing, even today.

Understand this highly debated flash point for scientific debate, academic criticism, and common confusion with this unique presentation. Delve into the technical aspects of the chronology, historicity, and significance of understanding this landmark event, including what we can learn from the Hebrew words used to describe it.Examine the numerous geological, geophysical, and paleontological indications pointing to the reality and global scope of the Flood.Learn how and why the authors' exhaustive research began, putting forth objectives, criticisms they would address, and identifying obstacles to be resolved. The Flood as described in the Book of Genesis not only shaped the global landscape, it is an event that literally forms our understanding of early biblical history. Now an experienced team of scientists and theologians has written a definitive account of the Genesis Flood with detailed research into the original biblical text and evidences unlocked by modern science and study. Often recounted and discounted as just a myth or children's story, what we find with deeper study is instead a cataclysmic event, one that truly wiped out life on our planet with the exception of those preserved through God's plan. The devastation the Genesis Flood wreaked upon a rebellious world remains an important part of the biblical narrative we should understand for what it was - a divine act of judgment on a sin-immersed world.

This event echoed the worldviews at work in our lives today and put two of the most unique and recognizable advocates of their positions on the same stage to face not only each other, but the many who watched. More answers, more perspectives, more truth to answer the world's most critical question: How did we and all we know come to be here, at this place and this time in the history of the universe? There are features on the earth's surface that science cannot explain with theories of changes over millions or even billions of years by the geographic processes that we see occurring commonly today. However, when you explore the evidence from a biblical worldview, the geological features marking the planet's surface make sense given the worldview catastrophic flood described in the book of Genesis. Join author Mike Oard as he explores what is termed as "the retreating stage of the flood" - the seven month-period when the waters receded and the landscapes which are familiar to us were formed by a myriad of processes like uplifts and sinking, erosion, and more, which answer important questions regarding: Unusual dispersals of rocks over hundred of miles How quickly mountains and valleys were carved Emergence of continents and the formation of ocean basins Percussions marks shaped by vast and violently moving water Why very gradual erosion and deposits of soil cannot explain surface formations The study of geomorphology and what it can reveal Flood by Design takes you into a fascinating aspect of the Genesis flood you may never have considered. Examine unusual rock formations and evidence that only the biblical flood model can fully explain. Filled with many photographs and easy-to-understand illustrations and charts, the books is a powerful source of research and answers for high school students and beyond.
