This volume lists, in alphabetical order, the major Jewish communities that existed in Lithuania before World War II. The name of each community is accompanied by information about it: when it was founded, the Jewish population in different years, shops and synagogues, and the names of citizens. An appendix locates each town on a map of Lithuania. Since most of the Jewish communities in Lithuania were destroyed in the Holocaust, this volume will be a valuable tool in recreating a picture of Lithuanian Jewry.

Religious ignorance is as dangerous for societal stability as religious extremism. In The Great Leap-Fraud, author A. J. Deus shows that only through the cowardly behavior of a majority that is uneducated in religious questions can sectarian extremism and terrorism take shape and overtake societies. Modern civilizations fail to address the dangerous defect. Based on a reassessment of primary documents from the beginning of Judaism through to the Reformation, The Great Leap-Fraud evaluates the Judaic scriptures of the Jews, the Christians, and the Muslims for their potential to stir hatred, violence, and terrorism. It searches for messages in the scriptures that may alter the economic behavior of societies. While providing an overview of three major religionsJudaism, Christianity, and IslamThe Great Leap-Fraud uncovers a series of frauds and premeditated deployment of prophets with the goal to establish or redeem the Jewish state of Israel. It also uncovers how the vested interest of Christian historians has pushed the rise of Christianity unto Roman Emperors. Deus shows that the way humans think and act are strongly influenced by a culture driven by the norms of religious organizations, both past and present. More information at www.ajdeus.org.

Following a pilot study, and after consulting with researchers, it became clear that there was no substantive record of the Lithuanian Jews who were murdered during the Holocaust. After five years of research, a comprehensive list of the names of many of the victims, together with an extensive collection of historical resources, has been published in this four-volume set. Additional information in this important publication includes deportation lists; the Yarzheit (memorial dates) of Jewish communities; and the ghetto census lists of Siauliai, the third largest city in Lithuania, as well as a comprehensive and useful reference list of relevant books, articles and films.

This book examines the treatment of joint ventures (JVs) in EU competition law, and, at the same time, provides a comparison with US law. It starts with an analysis of the rather elusive concept of JVs, encompassing both concentrative JVs (subject to merger control) and non-concentrative JVs. Although focused on possible definitions of JVs in terms of competition law, it also includes a broader perspective (going beyond competition law) on the different legal models of structuring cooperation links between undertakings. At the core of the book is an attempt to build an analytical model for the assessment of JVs in terms of antitrust law, especially as regards Article 101 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. The analytical model used proposes a set of sequential analytical levels, taking into account structural factors and specific factors related to the main constituent elements of the functional programs of JVs. The model is applied to a substantive assessment of four main types of JVs, identified on the basis of their prevailing economic function: R&D JVs, production JVs, commercialization JVs, and purchasing JVs. Also covered are particular situations of joint ownership of undertakings falling short of joint control. In the concluding part of the book, recent developments in JV antitrust law are put into context, within the wider reform of EU competition law. The book is comprehensive and up-to-date in terms of the reform of the EU framework on horizontal cooperation between undertakings, which was introduced at the end of 2010. Presents lists of names of Holocaust victims, including names of parents, place and date of birth and death, place of residence, and occupation, culled from lists found in various institutions and from private sources. Vol. I includes an introduction on the Holocaust in Lithuania, a list of cities and towns where Jews were massacred, a reference list, Web sites relating to Holocaust localities, maps, variant place names, and testimonies (pp. 120-129). The names are not listed alphabetically, but rather according to the source, which is then divided by the running number of the entry in the source database.
