Diffusion in Liquids: A Theoretical and Experimental Study aims to discuss the principles, applications, and advances in the field of diffusion, thermal diffusion, and thermal conduction in liquid systems. The book covers topics such as the principles of non-equilibrium thermodynamics; diffusion in binary and multicompetent systems; and experimental methods of studying diffusion processes in liquids. Also covered in the book are topics such as the theoretical interpretations of diffusion coefficients; hydrodynamic and kinetic theories; and diffusion in electrolyte systems. The text is recommended for physicists who would like to know more about the concepts and updates in the field of diffusion.

Download Diffusion in Gases, Liquids and Electrolytes Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
This volume contains data on diffusion in pure liquids and solute in solvent systems. Diffusion processes are widespread phenomena in nature, of which mass diffusion is the most important one, in particular in liquids. The corresponding diffusion coefficients strongly depend on concentration, temperature, pressure and density. Contrary to the measurement of viscosity or heat transfer, where a few well developed experimental methods exist, we find a wide spectrum of different methods for measuring mass diffusion coefficients ranging from NMR spectroscopy, scattering, holography, interferometry, chromatography, diffusion through diaphragm and in capillary systems, and electroanalytical methods. After an introduction about the selection and normalization of data, in its first part this volume presents the most important measurement methods, followed by a second part on diffusion coefficient data depending on the various parameters./div

Download A New Method for Studying Self-diffusion in Liquids: Self-diffusion in Liquid Mercury Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
A new technique has been developed for measuring the selfdiffusion coefficients of liquids. Inactive and labelled samples of the liquid are contacted in a long capillary cell, and the extent of diffusion at suitable time intervals determined by means of a collimated scintillation counter. Experimental details and possible errors are discussed. The method has been tested with liquid mercury. The result agrees with the work of Nachtrieb and Petit, but is significantly lower than measurements by the capillary cell technique. Possible reasons for this are discussed. (Author).
