The Maverick & The Manhattanite by Leanne Banks Ever since volunteer coordinator Lissa Roarke rolled into town with her fancy luggage and metropolitan attitude, everything about her has rubbed Sheriff Gage Christensen the wrong way. She talks too fast, too bossy and is just too darn irritating. So it's only a matter of time before these two squawking opposites find their way – together! But there's a rough road ahead for Rust Creek's sexy sheriff and his do–gooder girl. Can Big Sky and Big Apple make it past the first frost? Just how much will a city girl sacrifice for the strong arms of the law? Doctor, Soldier, Daddy by Caro Carson Dashing soldier Jamie MacDowell needs a mother for his infant son, stat! And while there's no shortage of candidates, he lets his baby boy help with the selection. Little Sam falls for quiet Kendry Harrison. But Jamie quickly realises that the orderly's sweet veneer hides a multitude of attractions – and if he's not careful, he could wind up wrecking their carefully set–up 'arrangement'...

Download Critical Pedagogy and the Everyday Classroom Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Critical Pedagogy addresses the shortcomings of mainstream educational theory and practice and promotes the humanization of teacher and student. Where Critical Pedagogy is often treated as a discourse of academics in universities, this book explores the applications of Critical Pedagogy to actual classroom situations. Written in a straight-forward, concise, and lucid form by an American high school teacher, drawing examples from literature, film, and, above all, the everyday classroom, this book is meant to provoke thought in teachers, students and education activists as we transform our classrooms into democratic sites. From grading to testing, from content area disciplines to curriculum planning and instruction, from the social construction of knowledge to embodied cognition, this book takes the theories behind Critical Pedagogy and illustrates them at work in common classroom environments.

Download The Cinema of Urban Crisis Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
The Cinema of Urban Crisis explores the relationships between cinema and urban crises in the United States and Europe in the 1970s. Discussing films by Robert Altman, Stanley Kubrick, and Jean-Luc Godard, among others, Lawrence Webb reflects on processes of globalization and urban change that were beginning to transform cities like New York, London, and Berlin. Throughout, the 1970s are conceptualized as a historically distinctive period of crisis in capitalism, which reorganized urban landscapes and produced cultural innovation, technological change, and new configurations of power and resistance. Addressing themes of interest for film, cultural, and urban studies, this book is a compelling take on cinema from both sides of the Atlantic.

Download Thomas Hamblin and the Bowery Theatre Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
This book recounts the personal and professional life of Thomas Souness Hamblin (1800-1853), Shakespearean actor and Bowery Theatre manager. Primarily responsible for the popularity of “blood and thunder” melodramas with working class audiences in New York City, Hamblin discovered, trained and promoted many young actors and, especially, actresses who later became famous in their own right. He also epitomized the “sporting man” of mid-nineteenth century life, conducting a scandalous series of affairs and visits to Manhattan brothels, which cost him his marriage to Elizabeth Blanchard Hamblin (1799-1849) and made him the brunt of moralist, religious and journalistic crusades, notably that of James Gordon Bennett’s New York Herald. His machinations and perseverance through trying challenges, including several destructions of the Bowery Theatre by fire, extensive financial and legal complications, and the untimely deaths of several young protégées, earned him equal measures of admiration and opprobrium.
